Srila Prabhupada explains the history of the discovery of Radha-Kunda

**newrule

Srila Prabhupada explains the history of the discovery of Radha-Kunda:
The spot where we now find Śrī Rādhā-kuṇḍa was an agricultural field during the time of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. A  small reservoir of water was there, and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu bathed  in that water and pointed out that originally Rādhā-kuṇḍa existed in that location. Following His directions, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī and Sanātana Gosvāmī renovated Rādhā-kuṇḍa. This is one of the brilliant examples of how the Gosvāmīs excavated  lost places of pilgrimage. Similarly, it is through the endeavor of the  Gosvāmīs that all the important temples at Vṛndāvana were established.  Originally there were seven important Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava temples  established in Vṛndāvana, namely, the Madana-mohana temple, Govinda  temple, Gopīnātha temple, Śrī Rādhāramaṇa temple, Rādhā-Śyāmasundara  temple, Rādhā-Dāmodara temple and Gokulānanda temple.  Books : Sri Caitanya-caritamrta – 1975 Edition : Cc.  Adi-lila : Adi 10: The Trunk, Branches and Subbranches of the Caitanya Tree : Adi 10.90 Continue reading →

3 ways to degrade oneself–SP‏

Degradation. The first degradation is undesirable  association, the first degradation; then no more  respect for scriptural injunction, second degradation; and then the  third step, aghayur asucih, you become infected with the  low-grade quality. Jaghanya-guna-vrtti-stha adho gacchanti tamasah.  The first grade qualification is sattva-guna, second rajo-guna, and the  third, tamo-guna. So they believe in the evolution. Now, in this human form of life, what is further evolution? The further evolution is that if you are  keeping in sattva-guna, in goodness, then you can be promoted, elevated, to  the higher planetary system. Urdhvam gacchanti sattva-sthah. And if you keep  yourself in the rajo-guna, then you will keep within this Bhurloka. And if  you are infected with the tamo-guna, then you again go to lower grade  life, again animal life, plant life. This is the nature’s process.  You cannot avoid it. You may be very much proud falsely, but after  death, after giving up this body, you are completely… You are already
completely under the regulative principle of nature. You cannot violate  even. But if you foolishly violate, then you are preparing your next life  according to your karma. Karmana daiva-netrena…. Continue reading →

Which of millions of families– do I belong to?–SP‏

**newrule

750910SB.VRN                    Lectures                   229589/530501 … Therefore it is said janma koti… We are passing  through many forms of different forms of life. We are creating one  family, that “I belong to this family.” But what about my other  families? Because janma koti, in every family, when I enter,  there must be father and mother and family members. So which family I  am especially concerned? That is our ignorance. We become interested in  the particular family where we are at present. But we do not know  that in the past we had to pass through many hundreds and millions  of families. So which family is correct? And again, if I do not  correct myself at the present moment, I have to go through many millions  of families until we come to the point: vasudevah sarvam iti sa  mahatma sudurlabhah. This is the point. Continue reading →

Hare Krsna to all

All glories to Srila Prabhupada
Below are a few paragraphs of yet another brilliant lecture by Srila
Prabhupada on the differences of education between the Asuras and the
Devatas.
1.The demons want to make machines solve all their problems,
while the Devatas understand that Lord Vishnu, or Krsna, wants us to
live off the land–“Sarva Kama dugha mahi”  .
2.He says the Indians are coming to America to learn machine and the
Americans and European devotees are going to India to learn how to
become Brahmanas. Continue reading →

Reply to Rocana Dasa on his COMPLETE MISUNDERSTANDING of BOTH the Guru and Ritvik Issue

This is a REPLY to Rocana Prabhu on his COMPLETE MISUNDERSTANDING of BOTH Guru AND Ritvik Issue:
77-07-09.All Letter: All G.B.C., All Temple Presidents The name of a newly initiated disciple should be sent by the representative who has accepted him or her to Srila Prabhupada, to be included in His Divine Grace’s “Initiated Disciples” book.”
Amar Puri Prabhu wrote to Rocana Prabhu and Rocana Prabhu Replies: “So who gave you permission, Amar Puri, to decide that the system will be changed upon his departure so that names get sent to someone else? Or not sent? Or whatever?” — Rocana
Mahesh: Srila Prabhupada had ALREADY given instruction of HOW he wanted the prospective disciples ACCEPTED. The system was ALREADY in place. Besides this, use of LITTLE COMMON-SENSE is neccesary WHAT sort of person can REPRESENT Srila Prabhupada. If REPRESENTATIVE OF ACARYA falls down he CAN be REPLACED: Continue reading →

Pitfalls of gramya katha (village talk)—SP‏

**newrule

DSCN4661

750901SB.VRN                    Lectures                   229374/530501 Therefore Caitanya Mahaprabhu has advised,  grama-katha na sunibe, bhala na khaibe na bhala na  paribe. This is vairagya–“Don’t indulge in gramya-katha.” Therefore  we always advise, “Don’t read newspaper. Don’t read any other book,” because  it is full of gramya-katha, gramyaih. So to avoid it as far as possible.  There is no need.
What is the news of a gramya-katha newspaper? The same thing repeated.  “Here there is flood, where there is train disaster, where there  is accident, and political, and one politician is giving speech,  another politician is giving speech.” These are the gramya things. So  we should save ourself. Gramyair manoramaih. These externally  very attractive news, we should avoid it completely. We shall simply  talk of Krsna. That is the safest method. We shall simply talk  krsna-katha. And krsna-katha means what Krsna has said. That is krsna-katha.  Or what is spoken about Krsna. So Bhagavad-gita means krsna-katha,  what Krsna has said. The Curious Story of Romaharsana Suta

**newrule

By Narasimha das

[Note: I wrote a version of this article by hand (minus the parts in brackets) and gave it to Tamal Krsna Gosvami in late 1979 when we were staying at our ISKCON farm project in Oklahoma. The next day when I brought him his lunch, I noticed he had “Krsna Book” opened to Chapter 77. He said, “Let’s discuss your article.”  He got an urgent call right after lunch, and we never had that discussion. But he gave me permission to leave his “zone”, and shortly thereafter he spoke his famous Topanga Canyon confessions, wherein he frankly admitted Srila Prabhupada had never appointed any gurus.]

Rupa Goswami was the first Goswami

**newrule

710106SB.CAL                    Lectures                   … Rupa Gosvami was a minister. He was rejected by the brahmana  society, but Caitanya Mahaprabhu made him gosvami. He is the original  gosvami. Why? Because he gave up the dictation of Nawab Shah but he  followed the dictation of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Therefore he became gosvami,  prabhupada. He became prabhupada. Prabhupada means the title or the respect  which is given to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is called…  Prabhu means master and pada means maryada, or the respect or  the distinction. So bhagavad-duta, those who are strictly following  the dictation of Krsna under strict disciplinary chain of  disciplic succession, he is Krsna’s representative and he should be given  all the respect. Saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastraih. That is the  verdict of all sastras.    And those who are actually Vaisnava,  they follow this instruction….

But he gave me permission to leave his “zone”, and shortly thereafter he spoke his famous Topanga Canyon confessions, wherein he frankly admitted Srila Prabhupada had never appointed any gurus.]

In Srila Prabhupada’s KRSNA BOOK, Chapter 77, we find the story of Romaharsana Suta. This man was a learned transcendentalist and direct disciple of Srila Vyasadeva. But he was not a pure devotee. Srila Prabhupada explains: “his transcendental realization was not perfect.”

Just prior to the advent of the age of Kali, many great sages and saintly persons gathered at the holy place of Naimisaranya to perform a great sacrifice via the recitation of the pastimes of the Supreme Lord and His pure devotees. Such narrations are found in the Puranas, such as Srimad-Bhagavatam and Mahabharata, and in other authorized scriptures. In Vedic culture, advanced devotees well-versed in these scriptures would often lead long discourses and discussions of these important topics.  Unlike the modern-day bhagavat-saptas performed by professional speakers to impress laymen for sake of their own financial gain, these meetings were attended almost exclusively by ascetics and yogis, or serious transcendentalists eager to develop full Krishna consciousness.

Romharsana Suta had studied all the Vedas and Puranas under the personal guidance of Srila Vyasadeva, the literary incarnation of God.  Therefore he had been elected to sit on the vyasasana at the great assembly of transcendentalists, even though he had not been born in a lineage of pure brahmins. We find many examples mentioned in Srila Prabhupada books wherein a person not born in a family of brahmins had achieved the position of a brahmin or acarya by virtue of training, staunch sadhana and realization in Krishna consciousness. Srila Haridas Thakura, for instance, who was born in a family of Mohammedans, was recognized as the best devotee and given the title of nama-acarya by Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself.  Srila Haridas Thakura, however, was the emblem of humility and never considered himself a great devotee or teacher of Vaisnavas.

Romaharsana Suta was not a devotee on the level of Haridas Thakura. In spite of his learning and exalted status, he had failed to perfectly realize his constitutional position as a tiny part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.  Rather he imagined himself to be the greatest sadhu. He dared to sit on the vyasasana–even in the presence of many learned devotees who hailed from dynasties of pure and exalted brahmins or brahma-rishis.  Moreover, when everyone else stood up and offered obeisance to welcome Lord Balarama, Romaharsana Suta remained seated. Srila Prabhupada mentions that he should have followed the example of all the other learned sages present by standing to receive Lord Balarama.

[Note: Srila Prabhupada’s “Nectar of Devotion” states that everyone should stand up to greet the Deities. No one should remain seated.]

Srila Prabhupada writes: “When Lord Balarama saw that Romahasana Suta did not understand the highest principle of religiousness in spite of having studied all the Vedas, He certainly could not support his position. Romaharsana had been given the chance to become a perfect brahmana, but because of his ill behavior in his relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his low birth was immediately remembered… “
