Krsna then spoke to His elder brother Balarama as follows: “My dear
brother, You are superior to all of us, and Your lotus feet are
worshiped by the demigods. Just see how these trees, full with fruits,
have bent down to worship Your lotus feet. It appears that they are
trying to get out of the darkness of being obliged to accept the form
of trees. Actually, the trees born in the land of Vrndavana are not
ordinary living entities. Having held the impersonal point of view in
their past lives, they are now put into this stationary condition of
life, but now they have the opportunity of seeing You in Vrndavana,
and they are praying for further advancement in spiritual life through
Your personal association. Generally the trees are living entities in
the mode of darkness. The impersonalist philosophers are in that
darkness, but they eradicate it by taking full advantage of Your

Vrindavana dasa Thakura’s birth

nārāyaṇī–caitanyera ucchiṣṭa-bhājana

tāṅra garbhe janmilā śrī-dāsa-vṛndāvana

SYNONYMS

nārāyaṇī—of the name Nārāyaṇī; caitanyera—of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu; ucchiṣṭa-bhājana—eater of the remnants of food; tāṅra—of her; garbhe—in the womb; janmilā—took birth; śrī-dāsa-vṛndāvana—Śrīla Vṛndāvana dāsa Thākura.

TRANSLATION

Nārāyaṇī eternally eats the remnants of the food of Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Śrīla Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura was born of her womb.

PURPORT

In the Gaura-gaṇoddeśa-dīpikā, a book written by Kavi-karṇapūra that describes all the associates of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and who they previously were, there is the following statement regarding Nārāyaṇī:

ambikāyāḥ svasā yāsīn
nāmnā śrīla-kilimbikā
kṛṣṇocchiṣṭaṁ prabhuñjānā
seyaṁ nārāyaṇī matā

When Lord Kṛṣṇa was a child, He was nursed by a woman named Ambikā, who had a younger sister named Kilimbikā. During the time of Lord Caitanya’s incarnation, the same Kilimbikā used to eat the remnants of food left by Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. That Kilimbikā was Nārāyaṇī, who was a niece of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura’s. Later on, when she grew up and married, Śrīla Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura was born from her womb. A devotee of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is celebrated in terms of devotional service rendered to the Lord; thus we know Śrīla Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura as the son of Nārāyaṇī. Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura notes in this connection that there is no reference to his paternal ancestry because there is no need to understand it. Continue reading →

I rarely read anything that Rocana dasa writes anymore. Now and then I check the waters so to speak, to see if he is continuing to spiral downwards or hopefully checked his downward momentum by divesting himself of his offensive attitude and thirst for glory. As ever pilot knows however, its hard to come out of a tail spin as Rocanas latest painful cry posted on the Sampraday Sun on April 10^th,Deconstructing the Lilamrta – Part 55

Those devotees who like to adamantly state that Srila Prabhupada is ‘still alive’, and ISKCON should just go along as if that were the assumption, are fools. This is just one of innumerable circumstances where Srila Prabhupada stepped in and saved not only the money, but the movement. It was his ability to function in the real world and his perception about who was a devotee and who was basically a demon that saved the day, and was a great contributing factor in the amazing expansion of Krsna consciousness during that period, when Srila Prabhupada was directly overseeing of the movement. Kṛṣṇa was very pleased with the atmosphere of the forest where flowers bloomed and bees and drones hummed very jubilantly. While the birds, trees and branches were all looking very happy, Kṛṣṇa, tending the cows, accompanied by Śrī Balarāma and the cowherd boys, began to vibrate His transcendental flute. After hearing the vibration of the flute of Kṛṣṇa, the gopīs in Vṛndāvana remembered Him and began to talk amongst themselves about how nicely Kṛṣṇa was playing His flute. When the gopīs were describing the sweet vibration of Kṛṣṇa’s flute, they also remembered their pastimes with Him; thus their minds became disturbed, and they were unable to describe completely the beautiful vibrations. While discussing the transcendental vibration, they remembered also how Kṛṣṇa dressed, decorated with a peacock feather on His head, just like a dancing actor, and with blue flowers pushed over His ear. His garment glowed yellow-gold, and He was garlanded with a vaijayantī necklace. Dressed in such an attractive way, Kṛṣṇa filled up the holes of His flute with the nectar emanating from His lips. So they remembered Him, entering the forest of Vṛndāvana, which is always glorified by the footprints of Kṛṣṇa and His companions. Continue reading →

760210SB.MAY Lectures 232164/530501 Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita, mattah parataram nanyat. Nobody is greater in every respect. Not that “Krsna is shorter at least in this respect.” He is shorter in one respect, that He could not repay back the obligation He received from the gopis. He was only shorter to the gopis. That is His grace. He said that “I cannot repay you. It is impossible. Please be satisfied with your own service.” That is the gopis. So He was shorter always, especially before Radharani. He felt Himself shorter. Otherwise He is the Supreme. He is always the Supreme. Mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya. So if you want to conquer over this unconquerable Krsna, then, according to the prayer of Brahma and appreciated by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, that sthane sthitah sruti-gatam tanu-van-manobhih: “You remain in your place, it doesn’t matter, but you become very humble. Don’t be puffed up.” Jnane prayasam udapasya namanta eva. You should not think yourself that you are very advanced, “By my speculative knowledge I can understand God.” That is mistake. That is not possible. You have to give up first of all this attempt, that “I am very learned,” “I am very rich,”or “I am very this and that. Srila Prabhupada explains how Ramanuja acarya refutes the mayavadis

vāsudeva-saṅkarṣaṇa-pradyumnāniruddha

‘dvitīya catur-vyūha’ ei–turīya, viśuddha

SYNONYMS

vāsudeva—the expansion named Vāsudeva; saṅkarṣaṇa—the expansion named Saṅkarṣaṇa; pradyumna—the expansion named Pradyumna; aniruddha—the expansion named Aniruddha; dvitīya catuḥ–vyūha—the second quadruple expansion; ei—this; turīya—transcendental; viśuddha—free from all material contamination.

TRANSLATION

Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna and Aniruddha constitute this second quadruple. They are purely transcendental.

PURPORT

Śrīpāda Śaṅkarācārya has misleadingly explained the quadruple form (catur–vyūha) in his interpretation of the forty-second aphorism of Chapter Two of the second khaṇḍa of the Vedānta–sūtra (utpatty-asambhavāt). In verses 41 through 47 of this chapter of Śrī Caitanya–caritāmṛta, Śrīla Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī answers Śrīpāda Śaṅkarācārya’s misleading objections to the personal feature of the Absolute Truth.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Absolute Truth, is not like a material object that can be known by experimental knowledge or sense perception. In the Nārada-pañcarātra this fact has been explained by Nārāyaṇa Himself to Lord Śiva. But Śaṅkarācārya, the incarnation of Śiva, under the order of Nārāyaṇa, his master, had to mislead the monists, who favor ultimate extinction. In the conditioned stage of existence, all living entities have four basic defects, of which one is the cheating propensity. Śaṅkarācārya has carried this cheating propensity to the extreme to mislead the monists.

Actually, the quadruple forms explained in the Vedic literature cannot be understood by the speculation of a conditioned soul. The quadruple forms should therefore be accepted just as They are described. The authority of the Vedas is such that even if one does not understand something by his limited perception, he should accept the Vedic injunction and not create interpretations to suit his imperfect understanding. In his Śārīraka-bhāṣya, however, Śaṅkarācārya has increased the misunderstanding of the monists. Continue reading →

April 1, 2013. Adventures in New Jaipur, Prabhupadanuga Farm in Fiji

Srila Prabhupada’s New Jaipur Vedic village project continues to progress a little each day. “Even drops of water will wear away stone.” (Chinese proverb) The 37 foot concrete bridge across our little river is complete- beyond it lies a large part of the farm where we hope to have flooded rice fields and a large garden area. The farm roads on the river’s east side are shaping up nicely with graveling and several culverts, and when dry weather allows, we will dress them and make final touchups. Another 18 foot concrete bridge has also been completed to replace the narrow wood timbers that made everyone nervous upon crossing. Gravel extracted from the river has been piled up on top and along the banks, available when needed for roads and construction.

The concrete block walls are done on the first two out of six cottages and the roof construction is ready to begin. It has been just about a year now since we first began clearing the cottage hillside, and finally we are getting an impression of what they will look like. They will be simple cottages, strong and open to breezes and views. They are available to qualified, approved applicants interested to participate in the New Jaipur Vedic village project, another humble contribution to the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada and the previous acharyas. There is no price tag attached, but contributions according to one’s means will be accepted in furtherance of the farm and temple programs. We always tell locals that we are developing a non-commercial spiritual resort and retreat. Continue reading →

And on top of that, this little bacterium has been found to improve cognitive function and possibly even treat cancer and other diseases. Which means that contact with soil, through gardening or other means , is beneficial. How did this discovery come about?
