Justin Murphy: …America has Comalco and Alcoa, two very large international groups, have large interests in the bauxite in the hills around Perth. They are out to make money. They’re in it to return money to their shareholders in America.
Prabhupāda: But therefore, there are two ways of living. One way of living is called material enjoyment, or sense enjoyment. This is one way of life. In Sanskrit it is called pravṛtti–mārga, “How to enjoy more, more, more, more, more.” This is called pravṛtti–mārga. That is going on. The whole… At the present moment the whole civilization, throughout the whole world—everyone is trying to get more money. More money means more sense enjoyment. More money means more sense enjoyment. This is called pravṛtti–mārga.
Justin Murphy: Well, maybe less enjoyment but more possessions.
Prabhupāda: No, enjoyment in this way of life more sense enjoyment, you will never be able to enjoy or happiness. That is not possible. That is the nature’s way. (Aside:) You can close the door. If you simply want to enjoy, you can enjoy. But you will create more miseries. So this is one way of life, that you enjoy your senses and create more miseries. This is one way of life. And if you want to decrease your miseries, then there is another life, which is called simple life. Simple life means you produce your food and you produce your cloth so you dress yourself nicely, you eat, yourself, nicely, keep yourself fit and glorify the Lord. This is one way of life. And the other way of life, that “We don’t care for the Lord. Let us enjoy the senses to the topmost capacity and be happy…” So this way of life will never make you happy. You will simply go on struggling. This is one way of life. Another way of life, that the human life is meant for God realization…
That is Vedānta philosophy. Athāto brahma jijnāsā. Now, by evolutionary process, we have come to the human form of life, and it is meant for asking, “What is my constitutional position? Am I this body, or I am something else?” The dogs, he cannot put this inquiry. A dog, he thinks that he is dog, that’s all. He is jumping, he is barking, and eating, sleeping, and having sex. That’s all. If I ask one dog, “Please sit down. Hear Bhagavad-gītā,” it is not possible. But you are human being, if I ask you, “Mr. such and such, sit down, hear from the Bhagavad-gītā,” you can do that. First of all we must know the difference between dog and me. The dog is incapable to understand Bhagavad-gītā. But human being… Just like we are selling this book in the Western countries, many millions of copies, because they are human being. We are not selling among the cats and dogs.
May 15 1975 Perth–the very next day
Prabhupāda: This man is unemployed, and if we engaged him for plowing, will he do that?
Paramahaṁsa: I don’t think so. (laughter)
Prabhupāda: Just see.
Amogha: That’s too hard, that’s work. “We don’t want to work like that, we just want some easy job.”
Prabhupāda: Then you suffer.
Śrutakīrti: That would mean they had to leave the city. They don’t want to leave the city.
Prabhupāda: Then go to hell.
Śrutakīrti: Yes.
Devotee (1): Śrīla Prabhupāda, we received news yesterday that one man in northern New South Wales is willing to sell us a farm, a great big farm out there in the southern tropics. Would this be a good place for engaging boys like the Indian, the Indian boy that came yesterday?
Prabhupāda: Yes. Our next program is to organize farming. Let anyone come.We shall give him free food and employment: “Come on.” Not that “I want to work as a clerk in the city.”You produce your own food. I give you ingredients. I give you land. And work for five, six hours, and take your food and chant HareKṛṣṇa.
Devotee (1): Anybody who comes to the farm has to agree to follow the four regulative principles? These people?
Prabhupāda: Yes. Otherwise you are not coming. Our main business is to make him Kṛṣṇa conscious.Where you have left my that overcoat?

My dear Karatieya,
Please accept my blessings and offer the same to your wife, Gauridevi, and your children. I am enclosing herewith some foreign stamps for your beloved son, Kirtana. I am very much pleased that now you are taking more active part in the propagation of our missionary activities. Regarding Ahmedabad Centre, we must have a place there. I am also very much eager to open a centre there, Ahmedabad being one of the most opulent and important cities of India. Last time when we held our festival in Ahmedabad it was certainly very encouraging. People are naturally Krishna Conscious there. If we organize properly, people will get enlightenment more and more and they will be happy. We have to organize in the neighboring village from where the Raja Saheb came to offer his respects to me.He has promised to hold a meeting of the agriculturists of 20,000 people minimum and this will be a great opportunity. Now, our next program will be to organize farming land to set an example to the whole world how people can be peaceful, happy, and free from all anxieties simply by chanting Hare Krishna Maha–mantra and living an honorable life in Krishna Consciousness. In India especially people are religiously inclined. They like to live in village and also like to love Lord Rama, Lord Krishna. This idealism is running through their blood and veins. We have to organize their natural tendency and elevate them again back to Home, Back-to-Godhead. Please think over these points very seriouslyand as soon as I return we shall take up the program. My beloved sannyasi disciple Swami Pusta Krishna has promised to give me a car, andas soon as I get it I shall move from village to village along with some selected assistants and organize this farming village development program.
Some Conclusions-So what happened to this major second phase of Srila Prabhupadas worldwide plan?
As he says there are two ways of living-the karmis way of just going after money and more of it in the cities, and the devotees way of simple living by growing our own food, etc???
All these grand and do-able ideas got lost over the course of the past 40 some years as the so called leaders of the Hare Krsna Movement went after money instead of following Prabhupada’s directives.
However, there are some of us, scattered here and there around the world who are doing as Prabhupada wished. We moved OUT of the now very obviously hellish cities and established ourselves on some land and began to grow our own food supplies. We are mostly not 100% self sufficient but are well along that path of total reliance upon Mother Nature(Krsna) and total un-reliance NOT on the hellish cities and their allure of fulfillment in the land of their “milk and honey”
Some will understand this but most will not.
