This is a short video presentation(above) about how Chinese wealth has been buying up properties in Canada and USA.
Below is a short version of my story- of how I dealt with rising housing prices-and satisfied Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krsna at the same time.
I have three adult children who all live in Seattle, just 75 miles down the road , south of the border,from Vancouver-and none of them right now are able to afford buying a house in Seattle either today or the near future because of what the market is doing by driving up housing prices thru the roof.
This has become a major problem for people in cities all over the world where concentrated and imported wealth drives out the lower and middle class people, who were the ones who developed these places in the first place.
Ironically,I also just looked at some pamphlets a couple days ago, put out by our local city (Sedro Woolley Wa) and our local county where it explains the average income and average house values. These figures are way below what goes on just 75 miles south of us in Seattle. Here, a house, a very nice house with some land around it, is affordable for the average workers income level. So according to the statistics from the county, this place, where we now live has seen a 70% increase in population in the last 10-20 years, most of it being lately. And the population now is just only 11,000 people. Compare that amount to the population of say Seattle for instance–they have around 3 million people all crammed into one smallish area that has one of the worst traffic problems in America.
Here where we live, the air is so clean (due to smaller population and automobiles)and all the farm land, that we do not have to take any smog tests when our car license tabs are annually renewed. This is unheard of in America–at least in the major metropolitan areas where everybody is packed up tight in smallish apts. and houses with no views, and neighbors whom you don’t want to be around. And the air quality is questionable, at least.
Just for this reason alone, these high housing prices, is a very a good reason to move out of these cities, and one that I chose around 17 years ago. I knew if I stayed in Seattle, I would never have been able to pay off a house mortgage there in a short amount of time. I could have done it with say a 15 year mortgage, but I was 53 years old at that time and that would mean I would be around 70 years old when I finally got done with paying some bank three times what a house originally was worth. This was not the road I wanted to go down. So we moved out of the city and bought this place with two acres, and by Krsna’s grace (and a lot of hard work) got it paid off in less than 5 years.
So it can be done, and it should be done by anyone who values a better quality of life than what the cities at present have to offer one. Therefore as devotees, we should well consider moving toward rural areas where people are generally nicer, the air is better, things cost much less, it takes much less to live there,less stress, better health,more peace of mind, AND, this is the most important thing-God and Guru will be pleased. Without the blessings of God and Guru, how can our life be meaningful and blessed?

But he is attached to this industrial activity because he is thinking that “We are getting more money for wine and woman and meat. Now there is petrol problem. I see so many buses, and not a single man, one or two men. And for two men a big huge bus is being run, and so much petrol is consumed unnecessarily. I have seen. I went from Nairobi to London in a plane–only five passengers. Out of that, four passengers we were. Why? Why this nonsense? And there is petrol problem now. They are creating simply, the so-called advancement of civilization, creating problems, that’s all. And that is due to these rascal leaders. Andha yathandhair upaniyamanas te ‘pisa-tantryam uru-damni baddhah. They do not know what is the ideal of life, what is the aim of life. They are creating
hodge-podge civilization and putting the mass of people in chaoticcondition. This is the sum and substance. I do not know whether you’ll agreed with me, but this is my study of the whole situation.
