ULTIMATELY, EVERYTHING IS SPIRITUAL
Hare Krsna
Below we have a lot of statements by Srila Prabhupada regarding how everthing is spiritual-as long it is connected with Krsna that is. When the marginal energy (us) decides we want to utilize anything for our selves or our sense gratification, then that thing or person becomes part of the material energy. But as soon as that same thing is utilized for the purposes of Krsna, it regains its original spiritual energy. This is called acintya abedabeda tattva-how everthing is inconceivably one and different from the Lord.

1.Lord Brahmas body and soul come from the sanskrit alphabet
2.For self realized souls, nothing exists but spirit.
3.Husband and wife can turn home into Vaikuntha by giving up sense gratification and “forget” they are living in the material world.
4.One filled with material desires creates distinction-this is matter, this is spirit.
5.Maha Bhagavat doesnt renounce anything but sees how to utilize everything for Krsna seva.
6.When we forget Krsna, that is materialism, when we constantly remember Krsna, that is spiritualism.
7.Because we forget Krsna, therefore it appears as “material”.
8. And more…
SB 3.12.47 Brahmā’s soul was manifested as the touch alphabets, his body as the vowels, his senses as the sibilant alphabets, his strength as the intermediate alphabets and his sensual activities as the seven notes of music.
PURPORT
In Sanskrit there are thirteen vowels and thirty-five consonants. The vowels are a, ā, i, ī, u, ū, ṛ, ṝ, ḷ, e, ai, o, au, and the consonants are ka,kha, ga, gha, etc. Amongst the consonants, the first twenty-five letters are called the sparśas. There are also four antaḥ-sthas. Of the ūṣmasthere are three s’s, called tālavya, mūrdhanya and dantya. The musical notes are ṣa, ṛ, gā, ma, dha, and ni. All these sound vibrations are originally called śabda–brahma, or spiritual sound. It is said, therefore, that Brahmā was created in the Mahā–kalpa as the incarnation of spiritual sound. The Vedas are spiritual sound, and therefore there is no need of material interpretation as they are, although they are symbolically represented with letters which are known to us materially. In the ultimate issue there is nothing material because everything has its origin in the spiritual world. The material manifestation is therefore called illusion in the proper sense of the term. For those who are realized souls there is nothing but spirit.
SB 4.23.29 purport
According to Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura also, a husband and wife can turn the home into a place as good as Vaikuṇṭha, even while in this materialworld. Being absorbed in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, even in this world husband and wife can live in Vaikuṇṭha simply by installing the Deity of the Lord within the home and serving the Deity according to the directions of the śāstras. In this way, they will never feel the sex urge. That is the test of advancement in devotional service. One who is advanced in devotional service is never attracted by sex life, and as soon as one becomes detached from sex life and proportionately attached to the service of the Lord, he actually experiences living in the Vaikuṇṭha planets. In the ultimate issue, there is actually no material world, but when one forgets the service of the Lord and engages himself in the service of his senses, he is said to be living in the material world.
740628LE.Mel To renounce this world is not very big thing because the world also, created by God. So instead of renouncing, if we utilize this God-created material world for God's service, then it is spiritual. Because originally it belongs to God. Originally it is spiritual. Therefore in the higher sense there is nothing material. Everything is spiritual because everything is coming, emanating from the Supreme Spirit. So we have to learn the art how to utilize everything for God. SB 4.22.28
When the soul exists for sense gratification, he creates different desires, and for that reason he becomes subjected to designations. But when one is in the transcendental position, he is no longer interested in anything except fulfilling the desires of the Lord.
PURPORT Being covered by material desires, a spirit soul is also considered to be covered by designations belonging to a particular type of body. Thus he considers himself an animal, man, demigod, bird, beast, etc. In so many ways he is influenced by false identification caused by false egotism, and being covered by illusory material desires, he distinguishes between matter and spirit. When one is devoid of such distinctions, there is no longer a difference between matter and spirit. At that time, the spirit is the only predominating factor. As long as one is covered by material desires, he thinks himself the master or the enjoyer. Thus he acts for sense gratification and becomes subjected to material pangs, happiness and distress. But when one is freed from such a concept of life, he is no longer subjected to designations, and he envisions everything as spiritual in connection with the Supreme Lord. This is explained by Srila Rupa Gosvami in his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (1.2.255): anasaktasya visayan yatharham upayunjatah nirbandhah krsna-sambandhe yuktam vairagyam ucyate The liberated person has no attachment for anything material or for sense gratification. He understands that everything is connected with the Supreme Personality of Godhead and that everything should be engaged in the service of the Lord. Therefore he does not give up anything. There is no question of renouncing anything because the paramahamsa knows how to engage everything in the service of the Lord. Originally everything is spiritual; nothing is material. In the Caitanya-caritamrta (Madhya 8.274) also it is explained that a maha-bhagavata, a highly advanced devotee, has no material vision: sthavara-jangama dekhe, na dekhe tara murti sarvatra haya nija ista-deva-sphurti Although he sees trees, mountains, and other living entities moving here and there, he sees all as the creation of the Supreme Lord and, with reference to the context, sees only the creator and not the created. In other words, he no longer distinguishes between the created and the creator. He sees only the Supreme Personality of Godhead in everything. He sees Krsna in everything and everything in Krsna. This is oneness. The entire cosmic manifestation is but a transformation of the energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but because of illusion, no one can appreciate that God is nondifferent from the material world. Actually He is not different, but this material world is simply a transformation of His different energies; parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate. There are also other versions of this in the Vedas: sarvam khalv idam brahma. Matter and spirit are all nondifferent from the Supreme Brahman, Bhagavan. Lord Sri Krsna confirms this statement in the Bhagavad-gita (7.4): me bhinna prakrtir astadha. The material energy is Krsna's energy, but it is separated from Him. The spiritual energy is also His energy, but it is not separated from Him. When the material energy is engaged in the service of the Supreme Spirit, so-called material energy is also transformed into spiritual energy, just as an iron rod becomes fire when placed in contact with fire. When we can understand by an analytical study that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the cause of all causes, our knowledge is perfect. Simply understanding the transformations of different energies is partial knowledge. We must come to the ultimate cause. Na te viduh svartha gatim hi visnum. The knowledge of those who are not interested in knowing the original cause of all emanations is never perfect knowledge. There is nothing in the phenomenal world that is not produced by the supreme energy of the Supreme personality of Godhead. Aromas from the earth are different scents manufactured and used for different purposes, but the original cause is the earth, nothing else. A waterpot made of earth can be used to carry water for some time, but ultimately the pot is nothing but earth. Therefore there is no difference between the pot and its original ingredient, earth. It is simply a different transformation of the energy. Originally the cause or primary ingredient is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and the varieties are only by-products. In the Chandogya Upanisad it is stated: yatha saumy ekena mrt-pindena sarvam mrnmayam vijnatam syad vacarambhanam vikaro namadheyam mrttikety eva satyam. If one studies the earth, he naturally understands the by-products of the earth. The Vedas therefore enjoin, yasmin vijnate sarvam evam vijnatam bhavati: if one simply understands the original cause, Krsna, the cause of all causes, then naturally everything else is understood, although it may be presented in different varieties. By understanding the original cause of different varieties, one can understand everything. If we understand Krsna, the original cause of everything, we do not need to separately study the subsidiary varieties. Therefore from the very beginning it is said: satyam param dhimahi. One has to concentrate one's understanding on the Supreme Truth, Krsna or Vasudeva. The word Vasudeva indicates the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is the cause of all causes. Mat-sthani sarva-bhutani na caham tesv avasthitah. This is a summary of phenomenal and noumenal philosophy. The phenomenal world depends on the noumenal existence; similarly. everything exists by virtue of the potency of the Supreme Lord, although due to our ignorance the Supreme Lord is not perceived in everything. 720717sb.edi Adi 7.119 Lord Caitanya in Five Features The material energy is separated from the spiritual energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Thus although it is originally created by the Supreme Lord, He is not actually present within it. The Lord also confirms in the Bhagavad-gita (9.4), mat-sthani sarva-bhutani: "Everything is resting on Me." This indicates that everything is resting on His own energy. For example, the planets are resting within outer space, which is the separated energy of Krsna. The Lord explains in the Bhagavad-gita (7.4).. So the conclusion is when we forget Krsna, that is materialism. And when we constantly remember Krsna, that is spiritualism. The materialists means they are thinking of sense gratification. All these big, big buildings were constructed in your country, Edinburgh. The idea was that "We shall show something opulent that we are very great nation. We have got nice buildings, nice churches, nice roads." Puffed up. Everyone wants to be puffed up before his friends and relatives. So this is materialism. But the same thing done for the satisfaction of Krsna, that "We shall construct this temple for Krsna's inhabitation. We shall construct this building for providing the devotees of Krsna so that they may be able to chant Hare Krsna maha-mantra without any disturbance..." It appears the same thing, karma and bhakti, but bhakti is always in relation with Krsna and karma is always in relation with sense gratification. Therefore, the things, the ingredients is originally spiritual because it is Krsna's energy. But aham mameti, when we try to impose our proprietorship, that is materialism. Materialism means forgetfulness of Krsna. Otherwise, there is no materialism; everything is spiritual. Hm. Then? 751117CC.BOM Lectures ... energy of Krsna into three: cit-sakti, jiva-sakti, and maya-sakti. So the evidence is quoted from sastra, Visnu-Purana, that visnu-saktih para prokta. Originally the Krsna's energy is cit-sakti. Cit-sakti means spiritual energy, originally. Everything... Just like the sun and the sunshine. The sunshine originally shining, but when it is covered by cloud it is not shining. Within the cloud the real sunshine is there. So this material energy means it is covered by ignorance. This is the difference between spiritual energy and material energy. There is no two energies. Energy is one: visnu-sakti para prokta. That is para, spiritual energy. Ksetrajnakhya tatha para. Ksetrajnakhya tatha para. Ksetrajna means jiva-sakti, one who knows ksetra and ksetrajna. This subject matter is there in the Thirteenth Chapter of Bhagavad-gTo renounce this world is not very big thing because the world also, created by God. Just like we are. We are also living in the house. Without a house, where can you live? We are also human being. We cannot lie down on the street. We have got some house, some protection. We are also eating, we are also sleeping, and we are also mating, and we are also defending. But it is in a different way. These boys and girls, some of them are married, so they are also begetting children, and that means mating. But you see in our temple, even small child, he is offering obeisances, he is offering a flower, he is also chanting, he is also dancing. So to make sex for begetting such children, it is also God. But if we beget children like cats and dogs, then it is material. Because there is no God consciousness. So everything can be turned. Hari-sambandhi-vastunah: without any attachment. Just like these boys, they are collecting money, but not a single farthing they are spending for themselves, not a single farthing. Everything collected is being utilized for God's book publication, for propaganda, for distribution. They are not earning less. We collect some day one thousand dollars, and we are collecting all over the world about thirty thousand dollars. Yes. But not a single paisa for personal use. Everything is utilized for propagating God consciousness. So in this way everything can be utilized. After all, it is God's property. Isavasyam idam sarvam. Sarvam, whatever you see, that property belongs to God. We are falsely claiming, "It is my property." And that is maya, illusion. Just like some portion of land, I am saying, "That is India," you are saying, "This is Australia," and they are saying, "It is England," but it is neither England nor Australia. It is all property of God. We have created man-made designation. So we have to give up this idea. The United Nations is there for the last twenty or thirty years. Before that, there was League of Nation. To unite. But how unity? "This portion is, sir, mine. This portion is mine." Why do they not agree that every part of this universe or this planet belongs to God? What is the difficulty? Actually it belongs to God, but they will not agree. They will fight, 'No, it is mine." So these things have to be changed; then there will be God consciousness, and everything will be happy 750915mv.vrn Hari-sauri: (break) ...last night, Srila Prabhupada, and he was saying that if everything is ultimately spiritual, if one is spiritually advanced, he sees everything as spiritual. Then if everything is spiritual, then we can carry on just doing the same things that we're doing now, because it's all for God. Prabhupada: No. Krsna says that "Everything is My energy, but..." Mat-sthani sarva-bhutani naham tesu: "But I am not there." This is the answer. Everything is Krsna's expansion, but not that everything is Krsna. Indian man (2): It is also not spiritual. Prabhupada: What is that? Indian man (2): The energy is there, but it is not spiritual. Prabhupada: No, it is spiritual, but because I do not know Krsna, therefore I see material. Just like this microphone. It is being used for Krsna; therefore it is spiritual. Actually, originally, it is from Krsna. So we are not using these material things. Everything, whatever we using, that is spiritual. Devotee (3): Srila Prabhupada, if this is spiritual, spiritual means eternal. But this microphone will fall to pieces. Prabhupada: Yes, but scientifically it will keep the energy, conservation of energy. Even it is destroyed, it will remain. The material manifestation means bhutva bhutva praliyate. It is sometimes destroyed and sometimes manifest. But the energy is there. Indian man (2): And also remain in different form. Prabhupada: Whatever it may be. Just like this is earth. Now you prepare hundreds or thousands of earthen pots and dolls. When it is destroyed, again it is earth. So when it is manifested, it is earth. When it is not manifested, it is earth. So from the spiritual energy of Krsna everything becomes manifested, and therefore originally it is spiritual. Krsna said, bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh kham mano buddhir..., bhinna me prakrtih: "It is My prakrti, energy." So how Krsna's energy can be material? Because we forget Krsna, therefore it appears material. (Aside:) Hare Krsna. Jaya. (Hindi) 751218mw.bom Hari-sauri: ...Krsna's energy is all-spiritual, then why in Bhagavad-gita does Krsna make a distinction--"My separated material energy"? Why does He say, "separated"? Prabhupada: Separated... Just like I am talking and this will be reproduced as it is, although it is separated. Hari-sauri: So He's not personally present there. Prabhupada: Yes. When you replay, the same voice will come, but I am not there. So if you want to utilize this separated energy for Krsna consciousness, then it will help you. Just like the Deity. Everyone knows it is stone, but why we are worshiping stone? Hari-sauri: It is Krsna. Prabhupada: Yes. It is as good as Krsna. It is not worshiping the stone. Huh? Indian man (2): Worship, who are worshiping, it never comes to their mind that it is a stone. Prabhupada: No. Therefore the... That is the qualification. (break) ...qualified, you will see it is spiritual. Vasughosa: There are some religions that... Especially the one I am born in, they were especially preaching, you know, that "You should never see a graven image of God." Prabhupada: Hm? Vasughosa: "You should never see a graven image of God." Prabhupada: Yes, that is required, because you are not competent to see God everywhere. Vasughosa: No, but they... Brahmananda: They prohibit. Vasughosa: They prohibit the worship of this vigraha. They say that "God cannot be made into a graven image." Brahmananda: They say it is blasphemy. Prabhupada: No. Yes, we also say. Although everything is expansion of the energy of Krsna, not that everything is Krsna. That is the difference between Mayavada philosophy and Vaisnava philosophy. Vaisnava philosophy takes everything as expansion of Krsna's energy. Parasya brahmana saktih. (Aside:) Jaya. Sarvedam akhilam jagat. Everything is expansion of the energy of the Supreme Brahman. Krsna confirms it, maya tatam idam sarvam. Without Krsna, there is no existence. But that does not mean anything existentional is Krsna. That is Mayavada philosophy. Just like the money. Money is not material. You can spend it for constructing a temple for Krsna. Then it is not material; it is spiritual. Everything originally..., nothing is material. But when it is not used for Krsna, that is material. Otherwise, isavasyam idam sarvam tena.... tyaktena bhunjitha. If everything is belonging to Krsna, how it can be material. He is spirit, so everything belongs to Him, so how it can be material? Material means when Krsna's things are not used for Krsna, for oneself, that is material. Dr. Patel: And that is sin also. Anything which is not... Prabhupada: Material anything you do, yajnarthat karmano'nyatra loko yam. Anything you do, if it is not meant for Krsna, then you are criminal, immediately. Dr. Patel: Sinful activity. Prabhupada: Yes. Immediately. To spiritualize everything, Krsna says therefore, yat karosi yaj juhosi yat tapasyasi dadasi.... yat kurusva mad arpanam. Then it is spiritual. Immediately. Karmany evadhikaras te ma phalesu kadacana. Dr. Patel: Tad-artham karma kaunteya. Prabhupada: Yes. This is spiritual. Yajnarthat karma, everything is there. Unless you do it for Krsna, everything is material and sinful. Dr. Patel: That's a fact. If you are doing work tad-artham karma, then you become mukta, because there is no, I mean, taking with you anything. Mukta-sangah samacara. Prabhupada: Yes. Just like government servant, soldiers, they are killing so many; they are not responsible, because he's doing for the government. Police beats you, but he cannot bring any charge against the police. Another man, if he little slaps, you can bring charge, immediately. That is tad-artham karma kaunteya. The police and military department, they are doing for the government.
