Lord Balaram’s app day and brahmana initiation fire yajna

Hare Krsna-Today at Sri Sri Gaura Nitai Mandir, devotees from here, Canada, and Calif all came together for celebrating  Lord Balaram’s Appearance day and the second  or brahmana initiation of Vidura Mahatma das.

We had very colorful decorating displays from Jagannatha Puri area, Salagram  and Govardhana Silas, Lord Narasimhadev and Lord Vamanadev and of course Lord VIshnu Himself in the form of the fire yajna.
And what a feast !!!! Way too much for ordinary humans to honor, only Krsna can eat so much Prasadam !!
All in all, a wonderful time, as one devotee brought about 15 gallons of apples for feeding the cows across the road, very nice kirtans throughout, and the day was capped off  for some of us, by chasing that nasty herd of Elk out of our field area, away from Govindas gardens, and into the adjoining woods-where I would like to see them stay !!

What is your duty- that you cannot avoid??

NY jan 7 67
So we are going to have our relationship with that Supreme Personality of Godhead. Then how that can be achieved? That is now being explained by Caitanya Mahāprabhu, and that is called, the process of executing the service by which we can attain to that point, is called abhidheya. Abhidheya means execution of duties, execution of duties, or execution of obligation—not duty: obligation. Duty you sometimes may avoid, and you may be excused, but obligation we cannot. Obligation means you have to. Because you are meant for that, if you do not do that, then you will be in difficulty. Our obligation as living entities… We are part and parcel of the Supreme. Just like the hand. At once I feel some itching sensation here, so at once the hand comes without asking for it. It is so made psychologically and mechanically and whatever you may say. At once I feel some itching; at once the hand comes—obligation. It is obligation. Similarly, we are part and parcel of the Supreme. We have got obligation to serve Kṛṣṇa. If we are not doing that… That means if the hand is cut off from this body, there is no obligation. The hand which is cut off from this body, that hand will not come to cure my itching. That means it is fallen. His business is finished. Similarly, if we do not… Just like if the hand does not work the obligation which it has—to serve this body—then it is to be understood the paralyzed or diseased, infected. And doctor sometimes advise, “Cut it off. If you want to save your other parts of the body, then cut it off.” Similarly, these conditioned souls, they are now conditioned, or in one way they are cut off from the original, I mean to say, relationship, forgetful. So if we want… If this hand wants to remain in healthy state, it is the duty of the hand to fulfill the obligation of the hand’s duty, and then it remains very healthy condition.

Pop quiz from SP–Why is the living entity the Superior energy??

Why a living entity is superior energy?–SP
LA april 30 70
Prabhupāda: Why a living entity is superior energy? Can anyone explain? Why living…? Yes? Stand up.
Devotee: Well, it is stated that the living entity, or the jīva soul, belongs to the jīva-tattva, that categoristic…, falls into that categoristic of the Lord’s energy. He is… Spark…
Prabhupāda: No, the question is why the living entity is called superior energy? That is the question. The material, matter—earth, water, air, fire, sky—the inferior energy; and why the living is called superior energy? Who can explain? Yes? Stand up.
Devotee: Well, the individual living entities are all part and parcel of the Supreme Lord…
Prabhupāda: The part and parcel, this material energy also, part and parcel. Because energy…
Devotee: It’s separated. Material energy’s separated, whereas the superior energy…
Prabhupāda: Separated, and this also, living entities also separated. In this sense. One sense, nothing is separated; but at the same time, separated. But the question is why the living entity’s called superior energy?
Devotee: The living entities are conscious and the material energy’s not.
Prabhupāda: Yes, that is also one of the reasons. Living entity’s conscious, whereas the material energy is not conscious. This is one of the… Yes?
Devotee: The living entity is also eternal, unchanging, whereas the material energy is subject to change repeatedly.
Prabhupāda: Yes, that is also. And the most important is that living entity is superior in this sense, that the living entity can control over the material energy.

The Thankless task of Maya Devi

Maya Devi’s thankless Task
NY jan 16 67
Now, when you chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, if we chant mechanically, then the effect is different. I have already given you ten kinds of offenses there are in chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. So mechanical way of chanting is also another offense. So offenseless chanting… Of course in the beginning, neophytes, we are apt to commit so many offenses. But we should be careful that the chanting should be offenseless. Then we shall realize that Kṛṣṇa is present by His name. He is present. You’ll realize and you’ll have the same effect as you expect by meeting Kṛṣṇa personally. You can see Kṛṣṇa and you can hear Kṛṣṇa. Because Kṛṣṇa is absolute, there is no difference between seeing and hearing. That is the absolute sense. People give more stress on the eye: “Oh, can you show me Kṛṣṇa?” Oh, can’t you hear Kṛṣṇa? Why do you give…? This is also one sense, that is also another sense. Do you think by seeing you’ll understand everything? You are seeing so many things daily. Do you understand? So this is all foolishness, that “Can you show me?” Now we have got so many senses. So perception through any sense, because He is absolute, the same effect. Either you see Him personally or you hear Him. Rather, hearing is better because by seeing you cannot understand Kṛṣṇa. When Kṛṣṇa is present, all people saw Him, but they could not understand Kṛṣṇa. But one who heard of Kṛṣṇa even five thousand years after, just like we are hearing, we can understand Kṛṣṇa as far as possible. So hearing is most important thing. You’ll find in the Thirteenth Chapter, śruti parāyaṇa. Śruti parāyaṇa. Śruti parāyaṇa means one who is very much eager to hear about Kṛṣṇa, he’s a very nice qualified man. So hearing is very important thing than seeing or touching or smelling. Hearing is very… Hearing is the, is so important. When all other senses are not acting, sleeping, no other sense is acting, as soon as telephone bell is called, you get up. No other sense will act. So hearing is so perfect. Therefore according to Vedic principle this hearing is very important thing. Hearing. And one who is very much eager to hear about Kṛṣṇa is very expert, because hearing is knowledge.
….Māyā ca yat, yaya sammohito jīva. So this māyā, Kṛṣṇa’s māyā, this illusory energy, external energy, also saw. Vyāsadeva saw. He saw Kṛṣṇa, apaśyat puruṣaṁ pūrṇam. He saw the Supreme Personality as well as His māyā.

Bonds of Love–for Srila Prabhupada–in the early days….

Bonds of Love: Praharana Devi Dasi

Praharana became a devotee in Toronto in the fall of ’71. At the time she was studying science at the University of Western Ontario. She received a copy of Sri Isopanisad from a friend. It made so much sense that it prompted her to start chanting even though she had never met a devotee. She was also very attracted to Spiritual Sky incense, with the beautiful picture of Vishnu on its packaging and its exotic scents. At that time, Govindam, with Yamuna and George Harrison, was a hit on the radio, and for some reason it was being played every morning when her clock radio alarm activated. It seemed mystical to her. A few months later the Toronto devotees visited the university where she was attending and served a prasada feast. She was reluctant to go to the program when she saw how the devotees were dressed and the way they carried on during their kirtana – one devotee had neck beads the size of golf balls – but curiosity and hunger somehow got her to the feast. There she bought a Macmillan Gita and read it within a few days – after which she wanted to quit school and move into the temple. She spent a week at the temple during her spring break. However, Jagadisa and Laxmimoni told her that since she was only a few months from graduating, she should get her degree. So she received her degree and moved into the temple. In retrospect, she is grateful for that short delay because sixteen years later, as a single mother receiving almost no child support from a devotee ex-husband, she was able to go back to school for her master’s degree and subsequently find a job. If a human cant control his senses-no better than an animal–SP

June 11 1974 Paris

Prabhupāda: Yes. Śakuni, yes. They’re vultures, and their civilization is vulture-eater. The animal-eaters, they’re like jackals, vultures, dogs. They’re similar to these animals, the animal-eaters. It is not human food. Here is human food. Here is civilized food, human food. Let them learn it. Uncivilized, vultures, rākṣasas, and they’re leaders. Therefore, I say all fourth-class men, they are leaders. Therefore the whole world is in chaotic condition. We require first-class men to lead. We are first-class men. Take our advice, and then everything will be all right. We are creating first-class men. What is the use of fourth-class men leading? All fourth-class men. If I say so frankly, people will be very angry. All fourth-class men. Basically, they’re all fourth-class men. … So the human being, having higher intelligence, they should learn how to control the senses. This is human life. Human life means controlling. I give this example. Just like in the… In your country, there is no such shop. In our country, the confectioner’s shop is on the roadside, very nice. You have seen in India. They have prepared very nice, nice preparation and exhibited. People come and purchase. So animals, cows, as soon as they take some opportunity, they push their head and take something. Get away.

Image result for pictures cows eating on street india

Now, the animal, the cow is passing, and a human being is also passing. But the human being, although he’s hungry, he likes to take some of the preparation, but he’ll not do like that animal. He knows that “I have no money. So I shall have to restrain my tongue.” That is human being. The animal pushes the head. So anyone who cannot carry the regulative principles is animal. The law is for human being. “Keep to the left, keep to the right” for… This is not for the dogs. Dogs can keep to the right, keep to the left, anywhere. But he’s not criminal. Because he’s animal. But if a man, instead of keeping to the right, he goes to the left, immediately, he’s criminal. Therefore human society means to abide first-class law. That is human being. The laws must be made for advancement of spiritual life. That is human society.

we cannot violate the mundane morality of this world until—?–SP

We cannot violate the mundane morality of this world “for Krsna”-until all our senses are always engaged in His service. This is Paramahamsa stage.
May 6th 1973 LA
Kṛṣṇa is not hungry. He is self-satisfied, pūrṇa. But if His devotee offers Him something with love and affection, then He accepts. So do not think that “We have made such nice, sumptuous plate for Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa must eat.” No. There is no such thing, “must.” You cannot make Kṛṣṇa must. That is not possible. So Kṛṣṇa will see how much you have love for Him. Then He will accept. Otherwise He’ll reject. Therefore, it is forbidden, those who are non devotee, those who are not initiated, those who are not chanting regularly, their offering to Kṛṣṇa will not be accepted. We must be very careful. We must know our position, whether I am sincerely following the principles of devotional service. Then Kṛṣṇa will accept.

“Nor should we give them(Gaudiya matha) any of my books”-SP

Hare Krsna–Below you will find some interesting things-but most of all it should become crystal clear in every devotees mind, that there are certain things he should attach himself to and some things he should avoid-if he or she is intelligent and can hear the words from Krsna’s pure devotee, Srila Prabhupada This one is about avoiding those who are envious of the Lords pure devotee.

.1.)April 28 1974 letter to Rupanuga das-…We shall be very careful about them
(theGaudiya matha) and not mix with them. This is my instruction to you all. They cannot help us in our movement, but they are very competent to harm our natural progress. So we must be very careful about them.
2.)SP letter 9th November, 1975-“All my disciples should avoid all of my God brothers. They should not have any dealings with them nor even correspondence, nor should we give them any of my books, nor should we purchase any of their books, neither should you visit any of their temples. Please avoid them.”
Here is a question for all to ponder-
Why would Srila Prabhupada tell all his disciples to NOT give anybody from the Gaudiya matha his books??
It was and still is an open and well known fact that Srila Prabhupada wanted his books distributed in the millions to all the people of the world in all the different languages.
