Sadhana Bhakti-Warnings from Srila Prabhupada

Sadhana bhakti-warnings from our Acarya
NBS 13 Narada-bhakti-sutra
If a diseased person is being cured of the symptoms of his disease
but does not care for the principles of healthy living, there is every
possibility of a relapse
. Similarly, the neophyte devotee serious
about advancing in devotional service must carefully follow the
principles of regulative devotional service; otherwise there is
every
possibility of his falling down
. Strictly speaking, if a devotee
ignores the regulative principles and acts according to his whims–
if,
for example, he does not eat krsna-prasadam but eats anywhere and
everywhere, such as in restaurants–there is every possibility of his
falling down.
If he accumulates money without spending it for
devotional service,
there is every possibility of his falling down. If
he applies his energy not in the service of the Lord
but in some
material activity, there is every possibility of his falling down
. If
the devotee does not engage himself always in hearing and chanting the
topics of Krsna and His activities
but instead indulges in idle talk,
there is every chance of his falling down
. If a neophyte devotee does
not follow the orders of the spiritual master and simply officially
sticks to the principles, or if he does not strictly follow the
principles,
there is every possibility of his falling down. To become
greedy
is another cause of falldown. And to associate with persons who
are not in devotional service is the last word in maya’s allurements
for causing a devotee to fall down
.
On the other hand—if we follow the process this is what happens
SB 3.5.4 P–The bhakti process, as performed under the regulative principles of vaidhi-bhakti, or devotional service following the prescribed rules and regulations, is defined by the revealed scriptures and confirmed by great acaryas. This practice can help the neophyte devotee to rise to the stage of raga-bhakti, in which the Lord responds from within... when such a nondualist comes to sense that the Lord is worshipable and that the devotee is simultaneously one with and different from the Lord, then only can he surrender.

quotes on how to offer food to the Lord

Hare Krsna-below we have a few instructions by Srila Prabhupada where he explains the rules of what and how to offer food to the Lord, who Krsna will accept this food from and who He wont accept it from. These are important guidlines which we should follow.
Hare Krsna
damaghosa das
——————————
Devotees must be careful about eating food not offered to Lord Narayana or cooked by non devotees for their own sense gratification
Krsna book ch 58-“The Lord can be pleased only by a humble attitude in the service spirit. The more we render service unto the Lord under the direction of the spiritual master, the more we make advancement on the path approaching the Lord. We cannot demand any grace or mercy from the Lord because of our service rendered to Him. He may accept or not accept our service, but the only means to satisfy the Lord is through the service attitude, and nothing else.”

Deity Worship-most valuable benediction give by the Lord to neophyte devotees

DEITY WORSHIP-THE MOST VALUABLE BENEDICTION GIVEN BY THE LORD TO NEOPHYTES
Lecture NY sept 18 1966
So in my childhood, when I was five or six years old, I requested my father that “Father, give me this Deity. I shall worship.” So father purchased for me little Krishna, Radha, and he gave me, and I was imitating. Whatever foodstuff I was getting, I was offering to Krishna and eating. In this way I got my life developed. And there was a temple in our neighbourhood. So I was seeing the Krishna deity. Oh, I was thinking…..I still remember. I was standing for hours together.
SB 4.30.27 purport–Deity worship in the form of temple worship is the most valuable benediction given by the Lord to beginners. All neophytes must therefore engage in the worship of the Lord by keeping the arcā-vigraha (arcāvatāra) at home or in the temple.
SB 7.14.39-TRANSLATION–My dear King, when great sages and saintly persons saw mutually disrespectful dealings at the beginning of Tretā-yuga, Deity worship in the temple was introduced with all paraphernalia.

What can you offer to Krsna???

“What can you Offer to Krishna?”

The real thing is bhakti. What can you offer to Krishna? Everything belongs to Krishna. What have you got? What is your value? And what is the value of your things? It is nothing. Therefore, the real thing is bhaktyā, the real thing is your feeling. “Krishna, kindly take it. I have no qualification. I am most rotten and fallen, but I have brought this thing for you. Please take it.” This will be accepted. Don’t be puffed up. Always be careful. You are dealing with Krishna. That is my request. Thank you very much. —
Excerpt from a lecture on the occasion of the installation of Sri Sri Rukmini Dwarkanath in Los Angeles on 16 July 1969.

June 23 1976 New Vrndavana
Devotee (4): The difficulty is that we cannot understand, we cannot feel what pleases Kṛṣṇa now, yet we can feel what pleases us, and that is the difficulty?
Prabhupāda: You have no feeling, that everyone knows. Therefore you have to carry out the order of spiritual master, that’s all.

Jesus and Caitanya Mahaprabhus teachings summarized

Jesus and Lord Caitanyas teachings summarized
Matthew 22:36-40-New International Version (NIV)
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

 Some of his basic teachings:
  • He was the Son of God, and belief and faith in him would lead to eternal life in Heaven.
  • The most important commandment, or rule, was to love God above all others, and secondly, love your neighbor as you love yourself.
  • Forgive others; Jesus specifically singled out the age-old wisdom “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” and basically said don’t follow it. Instead, Jesus said, do not take revenge on someone who has wronged you.
Below are 20 key teachings of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew; this is not a complete list.
The Christian life is marked by baptism (Matt. 3:13-17).
  1. God is available to help us not give in to temptation (Matt. 4:1-11).
  2. Jesus asks us to repent—turn away from wrong, confess wrong doing (Matt. 4:17).
  3. Jesus says, “Follow me” and you will help find other followers (Matt. 4:18-22).
  4. Jesus says, “Take up your cross and follow me”(Matt. 16:24-27).
  5. Repeatedly Jesus notes, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Jesus seems to be telling us ways to experience heaven on earth now, and he also refers to a future realm where we will be in the presence of God and Jesus (Matt. 4:23; 13:18-52; 18:1-5).
  6. Jesus showed compassion for all and helped them: the poor, the despised, the outcasts, and wants us to do the same (Matt. 4:24-25;9:9-13).
  7. Jesus emphasizes, “Be sincere, not a hypocrite” (Matt. 6:1-6).
  8. Jesus and God are one (Matt. 10:40; 16:13-20).
  9. Jesus warns, “Don’t let family get in the way of following me” (Matt. 10:35-38; 12:46-50).
  10. Jesus has authority over the law and tradition (Matt. 12: 1-8; 15:1-9).
  11. Jesus fulfills Old Testament scriptures (Matt. 1:22-23; 17:9-13).
  12. Jesus preaches, “Love your enemies; do not hate, be reconciled” (Matt. 5:38-48; 5:21-24).
  13. Jesus reminds us, “You must become like a child to enter the kingdom” (Matt. 19:13-15)He adds, “I will be with you forever” (Matt. 28:20b).

Below is another way of summing up Jesus’ teachings in his own words, from his Sermon on the Mount:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matt. 5:1-12)

City life, most unnatural–SP

Hare Krsna-Below Srila Prabhupada in this short conversation hears about how millions of children in this age have never ever seen a cow or a horse, and for some, even a tree and then he says-yes this is most unnatural this so called modern “civilization” and city life.
Then he describes his daily life, how many hours he sleeps per day while writing his books and constantly traveling around the world.
———————————————————-
June 21 1974 Germany
Prabhupāda: Artificially they live in the city.
Professor Durckheim: Yes, there are now millions and millions of children who never have seen a cow, never seen a horse.
Prabhupāda: Yes.
Professor Durckheim: They go and stand at the zoo to see an animal. Yes, It’s true. And I have just now in my center the visit of six Americans from Chicago who have their psychological center, and they wanted to know what we do, and they told me. They have a special little area where children are taken to see one cow, you see, or one horse just to know what it is because they never see it, never see an animal.
Prabhupāda: Most unnatural life. City life, most unnatural.
Professor Durckheim: Oh, there are many children, they have never seen a tree.

So it is up to you to learn it and be able to present it nicely. Now you have everything, respect, philosophy, money, temples, books, all these things I have given, but I am an old man and my notice is already there. Now it is up to you all how to manage it. If you cannot increase it, you should at least maintain what I have given you. You cannot accuse me that I have not given you anything. So it is a great responsibility you now have.” Letter to Jagannatha Suta – August 26, 1975

How the Deity will talk with You–SP

Bombay Dec 4 1974 lecture-
Somebody was talking that “Your Deity is just like trying to talk with me.” Prasanna-vaktra. Yes. He is here to talk with you, but He is waiting whether you’re interested to talk with Him. That’s all. Kṛṣṇa says that teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁbhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam, buddhi-yogaṁ dadāmi tam [Bg. 10.10]. He talks, but with whom? Teṣāṁ satata-yuktānām. One who is twenty-four hours engaged with love and faith in the service of the Lord. To whom? Just like if you want to talk with some big man, then you must have qualification. Is it possible that if you want to talk with the big man here, immediately you like? No. You cannot talk. You must be fit to talk with him. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa is ready to talk with you. He has come. He has descended in arcā-mūrti to talk with you, to be visible by you. Now you make yourself ready and fit to talk with Kṛṣṇa. Then He will exchange conversation. Santaḥ sadaiva hṛdayeṣu vilokayanti. This is possible. This is a qualification.

How God is present in stone–SP

June 12 1974 Paris conversations.
Prabhupāda: Heat is also fire. But at the same time, heat is not fire. What is the difficulty to understand? If I say heat is also fire, but it is not fire, where is the wrong?
Devotee: Heat comes from the fire.
Prabhupāda: Yes. Therefore the fire quality is there. Heat is the quality of the fire. Just like I taste sugar. The sweetness is also sugar. And the form is also sugar.
Yogeśvara: Well, they would say, “If stone is also Kṛṣṇa, then why aren’t we worshiping all stone?”
Prabhupāda: Eh?

Indian village system may hold key to beating dementia

https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8492918.stm
BBC News – Indian village may hold key to beating dementia
news.bbc.co.uk
BBC News health correspondent Jane Hughes went to Ballabgarh in northern India, an area with unusually low levels of Alzheimer’s disease, to see if they held the key …
Hare Krsna-here above is yet another  proof that living a rural lifestyle is better for your mental and physical health.
Srila Prabhupada who is our ever well wisher , wants nothing but the best for us and all the people of this world.
That is so because he is a pure devotee of the Lord and is unhappy to see others in such distress today.
Just a few days ago, I had a close friend of mine go to a hospital in an ambulance thinking it was a heart attack but he said it turns our to be just— STRESS…..Yes just stress, like that is not a killer- like cancer, diabetes, or any other serious disease.!!
So even if we cannot become 100% pure in this lifetime, with no material desires, still we should strive for a healthy  lifestyle in which we can pursue this ideal of becoming pure in body mind and soul. And one very easy way to accomplish this is by living outside the modern cities of this world, grow as much of our own food as we can, chant the Holy Names, and in this way be happy !! This is Srila Prabhupadas second phase of his establishment of the Yuga Dharma (chanting of the Holy names of God) or the Hare Krsna Movement.
https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8492918.stm
Check out this above link to this study done in a village in Northern India. It also states that 820,000 people in the UK are now “living” with dementia……that is almost a million people  !
Here is what Srila Prabhupada is telling us we should do-especially as those who are supposed to be his disciples and well wishers or followers, what to speak of the rest of the world.
►740527mw.rom                Conversations Prabhupada: Yes, it will go on, but when they will see that  your ideal community is better than city life, people will take to it.  Param drstva nivartate. When one gets a better standard of life,  naturally he will give up the lower standard of  life.
