Srila Prabhuapda re: Potency of giving the Srimad Bhagavatam on purnima day

Submitted by: Yasoda nandana Dasa

Books : Srimad-Bhagavatam : Canto 1:”Creation” : SB 1.1: Questions by the Sages : SB 1.1.1 : PURPORT :
Some Māyāvādī scholars argue that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam was not compiled by Śrī Vyāsadeva. And some of them suggest that this book is a modern creation written by someone named Vopadeva. In order to refute such meaningless arguments, Śrī Śrīdhara Svāmī points out that there is reference to the Bhāgavatam in many of the oldest Purāṇas. This first śloka of the Bhāgavatam begins with the Gāyatrī mantra. There is reference to this in the Matsya Purāṇa, which is the oldest Purāṇa. In that Purāṇa, it is said with reference to the Gāyatrī mantra in the Bhāgavatam that there are many narrations of spiritual instructions beginning with the Gāyatrī mantra. And there is the history of Vṛtrāsura. Anyone who makes a gift of this great work on a full moon day attains to the highest perfection of life by returning to Godhead. There is reference to the Bhāgavatam in other Purāṇas also, where it is clearly stated that this work was finished in twelve cantos, which include eighteen thousand ślokas. In the Padma Purāṇa also there is reference to the Bhāgavatam in a conversation between Gautama and Mahārāja Ambarīṣa. The king was advised therein to read regularly Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam if he desired liberation from material bondage. Under the circumstances, there is no doubt about the authority of the Bhāgavatam. Within the past five hundred years, many erudite scholars and ācāryas like Jīva Gosvāmī, Sanātana Gosvāmī, Viśvanātha Cakravartī, Vallabhācārya, and many other distinguished scholars even after the time of Lord Caitanya made elaborate commentaries on the Bhāgavatam. And the serious student would do well to attempt to go through them to better relish the transcendental messages.

3 ways to become fortunate–SP

Submitted by Damagosha Dasa

Jan 15 1975 SF
mūrkhā yatra na pūjyante
dhānyaṁ yatra susañcitam
dampatyoḥ kalaho nāsti
tatra śrīḥ svayam āgatāḥ
(Canakya pandit sloka)
Everyone is trying to become fortunate. Now, Cāṇakya Paṇḍita gives three things, formula, “If you want to be fortunate, then do these three things.” What is that? Mūrkhā yatra na pūjyante: “Do not give any credit to the rascal.” That is first qualification. Don’t be carried away by the rascal. Mūrkhā yatra na pūjyante. If you worship a rascal, then your life is spoiled. You must worship a really learned representative of God. That is very good. And dhānyaṁ yatra susañcitam: “Food grains, they are properly stocked.” Not that for your foodstuff, getting your food grain or earning your livelihood, you have to go hundred miles, fifty miles. No. At home, you produce your food grain and stock it. In India still, they work for three months during this rainy season, and they get their food grains for the whole year. You can save time so nicely. So these things are required for happy home. There must be food grains. You cannot be happy without eating. That is not possible. Annād bhavanti. Kṛṣṇa also says in the Bhagavad-gītā, annād bhavanti bhūtāni [Bg. 3.14]. If you have got sufficient anna, eatables, foodstuff, then you become happy.

Srila Prabhupada re “We are delivering the genuine goods”

Submitted by Yasoda nandana Dasa

“… So the public is somewhat conservative and still there is some police harrassment, but you are “going on with work undaunted.” That should be followed. Haridas Thakur was harassed even by corporal punishment. Jesus Christ was killed. Nityananda Prabhu was injured by Jagai and Madai. But still preaching never stopped.
We are delivering the genuine goods to the human society on behalf of God, Krishna. If someone wants to check us, it is for the time being only and not permanent situation because no material circumstances can permanently hamper devotional service.

Please offer my blessings to the others there. Hoping this will meet you in good health….”

Prabhupada says-everybody should live on the farms-not just householders

Submitted by: Damagosha Dasa

Hare Krsna-
Right now is spring time and I went back to some former articles to look at pictures of our gardens. I don’t know about everybody else, but just seeing these beautiful things that spring from Krsna’s earth gets me enlivened !!
Take a look at the youtube video below of a ten minute walk about one summer.

These pictures should inspire the normal person. These things, organic food, beautiful fragrant flowers, fresh air, personal safety, and the security of knowing that you will be able to eat and live on, simply by depending upon mother earth is a comfort of tremendous mental satisfaction. When I went to the city a few days ago, I was drained of my energy. When I got back home, I felt charged up again. It is very simple to understand.

Some say well its my karma to live in the city. If that is so, then why does Srila Prabhupada say everybody should go live in the country on farms, if it that was not possible? No it is possible, we just have to think a little bit about doing it, feel it happening, then Krsna will help us achieve it.
Why is it that city people get out of the city for vacations or just plain relief, and country people stay in the country and don’t go to the cities ? I will leave that up to your imaginations…

Srila Prabhupada explains the 4 defects, what authority is perfect, and how to become joyful

Submitted by: Damagosha Dasa

**newrule

Montreal June 15 1968

If you think yourself, if you meditate on yourself, if you see your hand, “Am I this hand?” you will say, “No, it is my hand.” “Am I this leg?” You will say, “No, it is my leg.” “Am I this head?” “No, it is my head.” Then where you are? So that person who is thinking within that “It is my hand, it is my head, it is my leg, it is my pant, it is my coat,” that you are. So have you seen that thing? You have seen your father, you have seen your mother or you have seen your son. But have you seen the real father who is within the body of the father? Have you seen the real son which is in the body of the son? No. Then your whole conception of education, your whole conception of living condition and problems—in the false world. Therefore this movement is required at the present moment in the world. Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam [Cc. Antya 20.12]. This will cleanse the status of your mental condition. Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇam. And as soon as you understand yourself, then the whole problem—social, political, economical—everything will be solved. Bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇaṁ śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇam. And gradually you shall realize your transcendental life. Your transcendental life is joyful. Ānanda-mayo ‘bhyāsāt. Transcendental life means always full of joy, joyful. That is our nature. We are hankering after joyful life, but we do not know where to hanker, how to get it. By nature we are joyful. It is said in the Vedānta-sūtra, ānandamayo ‘bhyāsāt: (Vedānta-sūtra 1.1.12) “By nature a living entity is joyful.” But my joyfulness is covered by this material understanding. So I have to remove this material understanding; then again I shall become joyful.

Greatest Danger to our movement

Submitted by: Damagosha Dasa

**newrule

I have gathered the following which are very potent quotes from Srila Prabhupada which should act as warnings to us all. When something goes wrong with your car and the red lights start flashing, you know it is time to stop and carefully check things out. Similarly, Srila Prabhupada has given us all warning signs for the sincere and serious devotees to watch out for in our devotional lives. These instructions by Srila Prabhupada act as beacons for us to check out individually and as a whole whether our movement is on the right track or not.
  1. Do not create your own process for worshipping Deities
“The greatest danger to our movement will come when we manufacture and create our own process for worshiping the Deities. So don’t ask any more new questions, whatever is going on, follow it just to the exact standard as I have given you, that’s all…”
Srila Prabhupada in a letter to Dhruvananda, Bombay 4 January, 1973
  1. Do not bring personal motivation
“In my books I have tried to explain clearly this simultaneously one and different philosophy acinta beda beda tattva propounded by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. But sometimes it happens that this philosophy is given a self-interested interpretation. As soon as personal motivation comes in it is not possible for one to understand our Krishna Consciousness philosophy.”
Srila Prabhupada in a letter to Isana and Vibhavati 21 September, 1970,   Calcutta
  1. Bhoga offering order
“Yes, it is nice that you are worshipping Lord Chaitanya along with Radha Krishna. That is alright. Lord Chaitanya should be placed to the right side of Krishna. There is nothing special for His worship, but you may continue as you are doing now. The order of worshipping is first Spiritual Master, and then Lord Chaitanya, then Radha Krishna (as in the mantras or vande aham prayer).Your confidence to do whatever you are instructed by the Spiritual Master is very encouraging. Yes, this is the method of the Vedic injunction, staunch faith in Spiritual Master and Krishna makes one perfect in spiritual understanding.“
Srila Prabhupada in letter to Himavati April 1, 1970  Los Angeles
