Srila Prabhupada on useless philanthropy – “We have seen practical, in India
many sannyāsīs, they elevate themselves by jñāna-kāṇḍa,
but because they cannot stay, they again come to the karma-kāṇḍa,
philanthropy activities and hospitals and schools. That is their falldown. “

Hare Krsna. All glories to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.Srila Prabhupada quotes on useless philanthropy:So by karma-kāṇḍa you can elevate yourself to the higher planetary system. Even it is properly done . . . And now it is not possible to do it properly. And even it is properly done, that is condemned. It is not required. Similarly jñāna-kāṇḍa, even it is properly done. You can merge yourself into the Brahman effulgence. But that is also not safe, because in the śāstra we see that arūhya kṛcchreṇa paraṁ padaṁ tataḥ patanty adhaḥ (SB 10.2.32). Even one merges oneself into the impersonal Brahman, he again falls down. Patanty adhaḥ. We have seen practical, in India many sannyāsīs, they elevate themselves by jñāna-kāṇḍa, but because they cannot stay, they again come to the karma-kāṇḍa, philanthropy activities and hospitals and schools. That is their falldown.

So either in karma-kāṇḍa or jñāna-kāṇḍa you cannot achieve the real purpose of life. Therefore Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura has said, karma-kāṇḍa jñāna-kāṇḍa sakali visera bandha. Either you accept karma-kāṇḍa or jñāna-kanda, they’re different pots of poison. Amṛta boliya jeba khai. If by mistake you take poison, death is inevitable. Similarly, by karma-kāṇḍa, jñāna-kāṇḍa nobody can derive any actual benefit. By upasana-kāṇḍa, that is the . . . The Vedas, Vedic ritualistic ceremony means there are three kāṇḍas: karma-kāṇḍa, jñāna-kāṇḍa and upāsana-kāṇḍa. So upāsana-kāṇḍa, there are recommendation of many . . . worship of many demigods. But the best upāsana is viṣṇūpāsana. Viṣṇor arādhanaṁ sarveṣāṁ (Padma Purāṇa). Viṣṇor arādhanaṁ param. Oṁ tad viṣṇuṁ paramaṁ padam (Ṛg-Veda). There are different types of upāsana recommendation, but the viṣṇor arādhanam, worshiping Lord Viṣṇu, that is the supreme. That is supreme. So gradually, there is elevation to karma-kāṇḍa, jñāna-kāṇḍa, upāsana-kāṇḍa, but in the Kali-yuga all these things are not possible to revive. Best directly give him the best upāsana-kāṇḍa, viṣṇūpāsana, bhakti. Everything will be automatically achieved by bhakti-mārga.
[Conversation B – New Vrindaban, USA,July 1,1976]
There are, for the materialistic person, there are two varieties of self-interest. One is concentrated interest and other is expanded interest. Just like a child, if you give him some foodstuff, a cake, he will immediately eat, himself – and if he is little liberal, then his other friends also he will give. First of all, first is, he wants to eat, and then the other friend, “Oh, you are eating, give me something.” “All right, you also take.” So this is called extended interest, and the beginning is self-interest, anna brahman, “I shall . . .” Self-preservation is the first law of nature. So in our ordinary activities we find the same thing. Suppose a big political leader, in the beginning he is interested with his family, with his family members, but sometimes he takes to national interest, for all members of the country or the society, community. And then there is fight between one community to another community, one family to another family, one nation to another nation, because that extended self-interest does not make the thing perfect. That extended self-interest must be up to Viṣṇu. Then it will be perfect. But that they do not know, because they have no idea that there is Viṣṇu, the Supreme Lord, or Kṛṣṇa. Na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇum (SB 7.5.31). They do not know. They think that “I have extended my self-interest to my country, to my family. I have become a big man.” And people also give him honor. This we have practical experience. But that is extended self-interest. That is not actually philanthropy.

Philanthropy is when one becomes interested in Kṛṣṇa’s interest. That is real philanthropy. Otherwise it is all kāma. There is no question of prema. It is going on as prema, deśa-bhakti, love for humanity. Hmm? The whole world is going on, but these are all imperfect things. The so-called philanthropism, altruism, humanitarianism, they are all . . . means imperfect, na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇum (SB 7.5.31). That is not self-interest. Self-interest . . . Just like this finger, pick up some nice cake, rasagullā. But if the fingers think that “We have got it, we shall use it,” all the fingers together, it will be spoiled. But if the fingers think that “Give it to the stomach,” then it will be everyone’s interest. As soon as the rasagullā goes to the stomach, the energy is distributed not only to these fingers of the right hand, but the left-hand fingers also. This law they do not know. This law they do not know. Therefore it is yadā na paśyanti, paśyaty ayathā guṇehām. Everyone is trying communally, nationally, individually for his or their interest. So that is not good. Svārthe pramattaḥ. They do not know what is real self-interest.  [Lecture SB 05.05.07 – Vrndavana,October 29,1976]

The same example can be given. Suppose you are taking a jet plane to go to the sun planet or moon planet, but you are in the sunshine. You are more higher above the cloud region. Cloud is after, say, a few miles up, if you go, there is no more cloud. Finished. If you go above seven miles up, oh, there is no more clouds. There is no question of māyā. That’s all right. But if you go continually, if you do not get shelter in any other planet, then the next stage will be you have to come back. You cannot remain in that impersonal sunshine. You have to take shelter. If you don’t get shelter, then you come back.
Similarly, the impersonalist, for the time being they may think that they have Brahman realization, but because by nature he wants association, without getting association of the Supreme Lord he has to come back to make association with this nonsense. And this is practically we have seen. Many sannyāsī: brahma satyaṁ jagan mithyā, “Brahman is truth and the world is false.” They take sannyāsa, and after some time they come to the hospital opening business. They come down again to politics, hospitals, philanthropy, welfare work. Why? If brahma satyaṁ jagan mithyā, if this whole world is false, why you are taking this hospital business? Because there is no place. He has no engagement, and he wants association. He wants to render some service, but there is no service to Kṛṣṇa. He comes to give service to the nonsense māyā. [Lecture,MONTREAL – July 18, 1968 ]

Devotee: Well, I believe you once said that once a conditioned soul becomes perfected and gets out of the material world and he goes to Kṛṣṇaloka, there’s no possibility of falling back.

Prabhupāda: No! There is possibility, but he does not come. Just like after putting your hand in the fire, you never put it again if you are really intelligent. So those who are going back to Godhead, they become intelligent. Why going back to Godhead?

Just like we are in renounced order of life. So we have renounced our family life after thinking something. Now, if somebody comes, “Swāmījī, you take thousand millions of dollar and marry again and become a family man,” I’ll never become, because I have got my bad experience. I’ll never become.

So if one is intelligent enough, if he has got actually the bitter taste of this material world, he’ll never agree. He’ll never agree. But those who have not advanced to such knowledge, oh, they think, “Oh, this material enjoyment is very nice. Let me taste it and let me do business in my sannyāsī life, and stealthily and privately, let me enjoy.” These things are going on. That means they have no taste. They come to hospital-making or this philanthropy. This come again.

Sthānād bhraṣṭād patanty adhaḥ. Ye ‘nye aravindākṣa vimukta-māninaḥ. “Those fools who are thinking that ‘Simply by thinking myself, “I am God, I am Brahman, I have become liberated,” ‘ ” but ye ‘nye ‘ravindākṣa vimukta-māninas tvayy asta-bhāvāt (SB 10.2.32). “But there is no knowledge about You, Kṛṣṇa,” āruhya kṛcchreṇa paraṁ padam, “they, after performing so much austerity and penances, they rise up to the highest position, Brahman realization, but,” patanty adhaḥ, “they fall down.”

We have got so many instances. They take sannyāsa. They say that brahma satyaṁ jagan mithyā: “This world is false. Brahman is truth.” But after some days, they come to politics, they come to sociology, they come to hospital, they come to this and that. That’s all. Finished. Brahman finished. Patanty adhaḥ.

They must fall down, because they have no shelter in Kṛṣṇa. Just like the sputnik goes very high, clap, hear clap. Uh, come down again. Where you’ll go? Yes. Simply for the time being clapping (claps), that’s all. (laughs) But the fools, they are so nonsense, they are satisfied with that temporary clapping. That’s all.
[Lecture CC Adi 07.108 – San Francisco, February 18,1967]

Prabhupāda: But we see everything has got Kṛṣṇa connection. Therefore we utilize it for Kṛṣṇa. Just like you’re talking about Kṛṣṇa, it is being recorded. So it is useful for Kṛṣṇa’s service. Why shall I give it up? Because the aeroplane is there, therefore my preaching has been easier. In every year I am wandering all over the world twice, thrice. Because if you use aeroplane. So why shall I give it up? It is giving me facility to preach my Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, why shall I give it up, “It is mithyā”? Just like the Jains, they do not ride on car, but if by going in a car I can go and preach very swiftly, and come back again, why shall I give up this car?
So our philosophy is not like that. Nirbandhaḥ kṛṣṇa-sambandhe yuktaṁ vairāgyam ucyate. It is yukta-vairāgya. We have no attachment for all these things. We are sitting in this palatial building, that’s all right. But you can talk these things underneath a tree. But if I sit down underneath a tree, nobody will come to me. (laughter) Just see. So why shall I do that? This is our philosophy.

anāsaktasya viṣayānyathārham upayuñjataḥnirbandhaḥ kṛṣṇa-sambandheyuktaṁ vairāgyam ucyate(Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu 1.2.255)
Yukta-vairāgya. After all, you have to practice vairāgya. Not under attachment. But in connection with Kṛṣṇa nonattachment is required. Otherwise this nonattachment will not stay. Just like this, now you are talking of mithyā, how do they consider mithyā. Because this artificial nonattachment will not stay. Therefore, they say it is mithyā, but they are accepting it, under a different name—”Now let us start this school, now let us start this hospital . . .” They’re coming to the mithyā platform under some disguise of philanthropy activities. If it is mithyā, why you are starting a school?

Satish Kumar: Yes. Only way is to sannyāsa.

Prabhupāda: Yes. It is not sannyāsī business. For starting a school the government is there, public is there. Why you . . . that means brahma satya you could not understand; you are coming to the school-starting. He could not perceive that brahma satya. Although he tried to do it, but he could not understand. Therefore now he has to maintain himself, eh? So people will not give him alms, so he must show that, “I’m starting this school, I’m starting this hospital, I’m doing this. Give me some chanda (charity)” That’s all. “Give me some subscription,” and taking subscription and become fat, that’s all. This is going on. If brahma . . . jagat is mithyā, why you are coming again to this mithyā platform? [Conversation – London,July 30,1973]

10 kinds of ecstatic transformation experienced by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu

Hare Krsna-below we have a few verses from Antya lila CC that explains the 10 ecstatic transformations of Lord Caitanya in separation in the mood of Radharani from Lord Krsna As Gaudiya Vaisnavas we are supposed to be cultivating this mood of love for Krsna in the mood of separation as exactly experienced by Lord Gauranga. Here is some valuable information in this regard for those so interested
damaghosa das
—————————-
Antya 14.3—7 Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “I found Kṛṣṇa, the Lord of Vṛndāvana, but I have lost Him again. Who has taken My Kṛṣṇa? Where have I come?”
PURPORT-These are the feelings of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. First Lord Caitanya felt that He had been taken to Vṛndāvana, where He saw Kṛṣṇa’s rāsa dance with the gopīs. Then He was brought to Kurukṣetra to see Lord Jagannātha, His sister (Subhadrā) and Lord Balarāma. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu lost Vṛndāvana and Kṛṣṇa, the master of Vṛndāvana. At this time, Caitanya Mahāprabhu experienced divyonmāda, transcendental madness in separation from Kṛṣṇa. At Kurukṣetra, Kṛṣṇa displays His opulence, whereas in Vṛndāvana He is in His original position. Kṛṣṇa never goes even a step away from Vṛndāvana; therefore Kurukṣetra is less important for the gopīs than Vṛndāvana.
Although devotees who worship Kṛṣṇa in opulence (His Vaikuṇṭha aspect) may prefer to see Lord Kṛṣṇa at Kurukṣetra along with Subhadrā and Balarāma, the gopīs want to see Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana, performing the rāsa dance with Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu showed by practical example how one can cultivate the mood of Rādhārāṇī and the other gopīs in separation from Kṛṣṇa. Devotees absorbed in this mood do not like to see Kṛṣṇa anywhere else but Vṛndāvana. Therefore Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu lamented, “I found Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana, and now I have again lost Him and come to Kurukṣetra.” Unless one is a very highly advanced devotee, he cannot understand these intricate feelings. The author of Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, however, has tried to explain this divyonmāda as far as possible, and it is our duty simply to appreciate it as far as possible. Therefore the author has made the following request in verse 11:
tāte viśvāsa kari’ śuna bhāvera varṇana
ha-ibe bhāvera jñāna, pāibā prema-dhana
“My dear readers, simply try to hear this description with faith and love. That will help you to understand transcendental ecstasy, and at last you will achieve love of Godhead very easily.”
——————————————
Antya 14.53
cintātra jāgarodvegau
tānavaṁ malināṅgatā
pralāpo vyādhir unmādo
moho mṛtyur daśā daśa
Translation--“The ten bodily transformations resulting from separation from Kṛṣṇa are anxiety, wakefulness, mental agitation, thinness, uncleanliness, talking like a madman, disease, madness, illusion and death.”
PURPORT-This verse is part of a description of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s different traits from Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī. In this book, he elaborately explains the ten symptoms as follows.
Cintā. As stated in the Haṁsadūta: yadā yāto gopī-hṛdaya-madano nanda-sadanān
mukundo gāndinyās tanayam anurundhan madhu-purīm tadāmāṅkṣīc cintā-sariti ghana-ghūrṇāparicayair agādhāyāṁ vādhāmaya-payasi rādhā virahiṇī
“At the request of Akrūra, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma left the house of Nanda Mahārāja for Mathurā. At that time, Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s mind was disrupted, and She became almost mad because of extreme separation from Kṛṣṇa. She experienced great mental pain and agitation, which caused Her to drown in mental speculation in the river of anxiety. She thought, ‘Now I am going to die, and when I die, Kṛṣṇa will surely come back to see Me again. But when He hears of My death from the people of Vṛndāvana, He will certainly be very unhappy. Therefore I shall not die.’ ” This is the explanation of the word cintā.

SP says even third class devotees are liberated

Hare Krsna-below we have 4 verses and purports in which Srila Prabhupada
kindly explains the differences between conditioned souls, third class devotees who are liberated and what it takes to perform. pure devotional service. One may find these words valuable.
It is interesting to note that Tapana Misra and Chandrasekhara (Associates of Caitanya Mahaprabhu who would eat at their homes) were categorized as kanistha adhikari because their knowledge of sastra was not sufficient to defeat the mayavadi philosophers in Benares . However because of their great love for Mahaprabhu they could not tolerate the insults of the mayavadis.
So one can have great love for the Lord but because of deficient  sastric knowledge  is put in the category of third class devotee, kanistha adhikaris.
Therefore Srila Prabhupada says even the third class devotees are liberated souls or become imperceptibly liberated.
Hare Krsna
damaghosa das

SB 3.25.36–Upon seeing the charming forms of the Lord, smiling and attractive, and hearing His very pleasing words, the pure devotee almost loses all other consciousness. His senses are freed from all other engagements, and he becomes absorbed in devotional service. Thus in spite of his unwillingness, he attains liberation without separate endeavor.
PURPORT–There are three divisions of devotees—first-class, second-class and third-class. Even the third-class devotees are liberated souls. It is explained in this verse that although they do not have knowledge, simply by seeing the beautiful decoration of the Deity in the temple, the devotee is absorbed in thought of Him and loses all other consciousness. Simply by fixing oneself inKṛṣṇaconsciousness, engaging the senses in the service of the Lord, one is imperceptibly liberated. This is also confirmed inBhagavad-gītā.Simply by discharging uncontaminated devotional service as prescribed in the scriptures, one becomes equal toBrahman.InBhagavad-gītāit is said, brahma–bhūyāyakalpate. This means that the living entity in his original state isBrahmanbecause he is part and parcel of the SupremeBrahman. But simply because of his forgetfulness of his real nature as an eternal servitor of the Lord, he is overwhelmed and captured bymāyā.His forgetfulness of his real constitutional position ismāyā.Otherwise he is eternallyBrahman.

SP explains the difference between a liberated soul (guru) and mixed devotees

SB 3.27.27 purport..Anyone engaged in devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead is known as a devotee, but there is a distinction between pure devotees and mixed devotees. A mixed devotee engages in devotional service for the spiritual benefit of being eternally engaged in the transcendental abode of the Lord in full bliss and knowledge. In material existence, when a devotee is not completely purified, he expects material benefit from the Lord in the form of relief from material miseries, or he wants material gain, advancement in knowledge of the relationship between the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the living entity, or knowledge as to the real nature of the Supreme Lord. When a person is transcendental to these conditions, he is called a pure devotee. He does not engage himself in the service of the Lord for any material benefit or for understanding of the Supreme Lord. His one interest is that he loves the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and he spontaneously engages in satisfying Him.
The highest example of pure devotional service is that of the gopīs in Vṛndāvana. They are not interested in understanding Kṛṣṇa, but only in loving Him. That platform of love is the pure state of devotional service. Unless one is advanced to this pure state of devotional service, there is a tendency to desire elevation to a higher material position. A mixed devotee may desire to enjoy a comfortable life on another planet with a greater span of life, such as on Brahmaloka. These are material desires, but because a mixed devotee engages in the service of the Lord, ultimately, after many, many lives of material enjoyment, he undoubtedly develops Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and the symptom of this Kṛṣṇa consciousness is that he is no longer interested in any sort of materially elevated life. He does not even aspire to become a personality like Lord Brahmā.
Note-In the above purport Srila Prabhupada explains the mentality of mixed devotees in that we want to be engaged in spiritual activity– for the spiritual benefits. Ore even if we want to have knowledge of God-Krsna or know our eternal relationship with Krsna or just to know Krsna as He is , what to speak of relief from material misery,  Prabhupada says above-this is all in the category of mixed devotee- not a pure devotee yet.

SB 3.28.2 purport...In this verse there are many important words which could be very elaborately explained, but we shall briefly discuss the important aspects of each. The final statement is ātmavic-caraṇārcanam. Ātma-vit means a self-realized soul or bona fide spiritual master. Unless one is self-realized and knows what his relationship with the Supersoul is, he cannot be a bona fide spiritual master. Here it is recommended that one should seek out a bona fide spiritual master and surrender unto him (arcanam), for by inquiring from and worshiping him one can learn spiritual activities.

Note-So here again above, more proof of who is a pure devotee or actual spiritual master. Unless one actually knows his svarupa siddhi or eternal relationship with God-Krsna, then he cannot be a bona fide spiritual master or guru. How many devotees have we met who know this? I have only met one….
Once Srila Prabhupada was asked this question and he said-“that you dont require to know”, In other words you rascal, you fool, first become qualified yourself and then when you are so qualified then you can ask me, your spiritual master, that elevated question which you have no way of understanding at  all in  your  present condition of life.

Pride precedeth the fall

Every day, Vallabha Bhaṭṭa would come to the place of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu to engage in unnecessary arguments with Advaita Ācārya and other great personalities, such as Svarūpa Dāmodara.
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/100

Whatever conclusions Vallabha Bhaṭṭa eagerly presented were refuted by personalities like Advaita Ācārya.
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/101

Whenever Vallabha Bhaṭṭa entered the society of devotees, headed by Advaita Ācārya, he was like a duck in a society of white swans.
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/102
One day Vallabha Bhaṭṭa said to Advaita Ācārya, “Every living entity is female [prakṛti] and considers Kṛṣṇa her husband [pati].
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/103

“It is the duty of a chaste wife, devoted to her husband, not to utter her husband’s name, but all of you chant the name of Kṛṣṇa. How can this be called a religious principle?”
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/104
Hearing this, Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “My dear Vallabha Bhaṭṭa, you do not know religious principles. Actually, the first duty of a chaste woman is to carry out the order of her husband.
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/106
“The order of Kṛṣṇa is to chant His name incessantly. Therefore one who is chaste and adherent to the husband Kṛṣṇa must chant the Lord’s name, for she cannot deny the husband’s order.
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/107
“Following this religious principle, a pure devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa always chants the holy name. As a result of this, he gets the fruit of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.”
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/108

Hearing this, Vallabha Bhaṭṭa was speechless. He returned home greatly unhappy and began to consider thus.
Link to this page: https://prabhupadabooks.com/cc/antya/7/109
“Every day I am defeated in this assembly. If by chance I am one day victorious, that will be a great source of happiness for me, and all my shame will go away. But what means shall I adopt to establish my statements?”

When we lose our pride and hear from pure devotees-then we can understand-somewhat Lord Krsna

Lord Caitanya cut down the pride of Vallabha Acarya by preaching to him about how Krsna can only be found and known thru His pure devotees.

Antya 7.10-“One canimmediately purify his entire house simply by remembering exalted personalities,to say nothing of directly seeing them, touching their lotus feet, washing their feet or offering them places to sit.’
PURPORT-This is a quotation from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (1.19.33).
Antya 7.16–Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu replied, “My dear Vallabha Bhaṭṭa, you are a learned scholar. Kindly listen to Me. I am a sannyāsī of the Māyāvāda school. Therefore I have no chance of knowing what kṛṣṇa-bhakti is.
Antya 7.17--“Nevertheless, My mind has become purified because I have associated with Advaita Ācārya, who is directly the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Antya 7.20-“Lord Nityānanda Prabhu, the avadhūta, is also directly the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is always intoxicated with the madness of ecstatic love. Indeed, He is an ocean of love of Kṛṣṇa.
Antya 7.21-“Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya perfectly knows the six philosophical theses. He is therefore the spiritual master of the entire world in the six paths of philosophy. He is the best of devotees.
Antya 7.24–“Through the mercy of Rāmānanda Rāya, I have understood that ecstatic love of Kṛṣṇa is the highest goal of life and that spontaneous love of Kṛṣṇa is the highest perfection.
Antya 7.27--“The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, the son of mother Yaśodā, is accessible to those devotees engaged in spontaneous loving service, but He is not as easily accessible to mental speculators, to those striving for self-realization by severe austerities and penances, or to those who consider the body the same as the self.’
Antya 7.29-“When Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa was dancing with the gopīs in the rāsa-līlā, the gopīs wereembraced by the arms of the Lord. This transcendental favor was never bestowed upon the goddess of fortune or the other consortsin the spiritual world. Indeed, never was such a favor even imagined by the most beautiful girls in the heavenly planets, whose bodily luster and aroma resemble those of lotus flowers. And what to speak of worldly women who are very beautiful according to the material estimation?’

July 18 1973 London

Prabhupāda: No, everyone gives his own opinion. Everyone will say… He’ll not dare to say that he’s speaking right, scientifically. He’ll say, “It is my opinion.” To avoid any difficulty, he’ll say, “In my opinion it is this.” I think he’s speaking of that, (that) there are so many people, and they have got so many opinions.

  • Myth: Tamal Krishna Goswami authored July 9th 1977 directive, and Srila Prabhupada just signed it; so TKG’s explanation of the directive, which he gave later, should be followed.
  • Myth: According to July 9th directive, names of new disciples were to be sent “to Srila Prabhupada,” so this contradicts the idea of a permanent ritvik system.
  • Myth: Ritvik initiation system was introduced in ISKCON because Srila Prabhupada was ill, so July 9th, 1977, directive was meant to set the system up just temporary- only for the period of Srila Prabhupada’s physical presence.
  • Myth: If one can take shelter of Srila Prabhupada now, then one can become a diksa disciple of some previous acarya like Rupa Gosvami or Narada Muni.
