Reply to Rocana Dasa on his COMPLETE MISUNDERSTANDING of BOTH the Guru and Ritvik Issue

**newrule

This is a REPLY to Rocana Prabhu on his COMPLETE MISUNDERSTANDING of BOTH Guru AND Ritvik Issue:
77-07-09.All Letter: All G.B.C., All Temple Presidents The name of a newly initiated disciple should be sent by the representative who has accepted him or her to Srila Prabhupada, to be included in His Divine Grace’s “Initiated Disciples” book.”
Amar Puri Prabhu wrote to Rocana Prabhu and Rocana Prabhu Replies: “So who gave you permission, Amar Puri, to decide that the system will be changed upon his departure so that names get sent to someone else? Or not sent? Or whatever?” — Rocana
Mahesh: Srila Prabhupada had ALREADY given instruction of HOW he wanted the prospective disciples ACCEPTED. The system was ALREADY in place. Besides this, use of LITTLE COMMON-SENSE is neccesary WHAT sort of person can REPRESENT Srila Prabhupada. If REPRESENTATIVE OF ACARYA falls down he CAN be REPLACED: Continue reading →

Pitfalls of gramya katha (village talk)—SP‏

**newrule

DSCN4661

750901SB.VRN                    Lectures                   229374/530501 Therefore Caitanya Mahaprabhu has advised,  grama-katha na sunibe, bhala na khaibe na bhala na  paribe. This is vairagya–“Don’t indulge in gramya-katha.” Therefore  we always advise, “Don’t read newspaper. Don’t read any other book,” because  it is full of gramya-katha, gramyaih. So to avoid it as far as possible.  There is no need.
What is the news of a gramya-katha newspaper? The same thing repeated.  “Here there is flood, where there is train disaster, where there  is accident, and political, and one politician is giving speech,  another politician is giving speech.” These are the gramya things. So  we should save ourself. Gramyair manoramaih. These externally  very attractive news, we should avoid it completely. We shall simply  talk of Krsna. That is the safest method. We shall simply talk  krsna-katha. And krsna-katha means what Krsna has said. That is krsna-katha.  Or what is spoken about Krsna. So Bhagavad-gita means krsna-katha,  what Krsna has said. The Curious Story of Romaharsana Suta

By Narasimha das

[Note: I wrote a version of this article by hand (minus the parts in brackets) and gave it to Tamal Krsna Gosvami in late 1979 when we were staying at our ISKCON farm project in Oklahoma. The next day when I brought him his lunch, I noticed he had “Krsna Book” opened to Chapter 77. He said, “Let’s discuss your article.”  He got an urgent call right after lunch, and we never had that discussion. But he gave me permission to leave his “zone”, and shortly thereafter he spoke his famous Topanga Canyon confessions, wherein he frankly admitted Srila Prabhupada had never appointed any gurus.]

Rupa Goswami was the first Goswami

**newrule

710106SB.CAL                    Lectures                   … Rupa Gosvami was a minister. He was rejected by the brahmana  society, but Caitanya Mahaprabhu made him gosvami. He is the original  gosvami. Why? Because he gave up the dictation of Nawab Shah but he  followed the dictation of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Therefore he became gosvami,  prabhupada. He became prabhupada. Prabhupada means the title or the respect  which is given to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is called…  Prabhu means master and pada means maryada, or the respect or  the distinction. So bhagavad-duta, those who are strictly following  the dictation of Krsna under strict disciplinary chain of  disciplic succession, he is Krsna’s representative and he should be given  all the respect. Saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastraih. That is the  verdict of all sastras.    And those who are actually Vaisnava,  they follow this instruction….

The Curious Story of Romaharsana Suta

**newrule

By Narasimha das

[Note: I wrote a version of this article by hand (minus the parts in brackets) and gave it to Tamal Krsna Gosvami in late 1979 when we were staying at our ISKCON farm project in Oklahoma. But he gave me permission to leave his “zone”, and shortly thereafter he spoke his famous Topanga Canyon confessions, wherein he frankly admitted Srila Prabhupada had never appointed any gurus.]

In Srila Prabhupada’s KRSNA BOOK, Chapter 77, we find the story of Romaharsana Suta. This man was a learned transcendentalist and direct disciple of Srila Vyasadeva. But he was not a pure devotee. Srila Prabhupada explains: “his transcendental realization was not perfect.”

Just prior to the advent of the age of Kali, many great sages and saintly persons gathered at the holy place of Naimisaranya to perform a great sacrifice via the recitation of the pastimes of the Supreme Lord and His pure devotees. Such narrations are found in the Puranas, such as Srimad-Bhagavatam and Mahabharata, and in other authorized scriptures. In Vedic culture, advanced devotees well-versed in these scriptures would often lead long discourses and discussions of these important topics.  Unlike the modern-day bhagavat-saptas performed by professional speakers to impress laymen for sake of their own financial gain, these meetings were attended almost exclusively by ascetics and yogis, or serious transcendentalists eager to develop full Krishna consciousness.

Romharsana Suta had studied all the Vedas and Puranas under the personal guidance of Srila Vyasadeva, the literary incarnation of God.  Therefore he had been elected to sit on the vyasasana at the great assembly of transcendentalists, even though he had not been born in a lineage of pure brahmins. We find many examples mentioned in Srila Prabhupada books wherein a person not born in a family of brahmins had achieved the position of a brahmin or acarya by virtue of training, staunch sadhana and realization in Krishna consciousness. Srila Haridas Thakura, for instance, who was born in a family of Mohammedans, was recognized as the best devotee and given the title of nama-acarya by Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself.  Srila Haridas Thakura, however, was the emblem of humility and never considered himself a great devotee or teacher of Vaisnavas.

Romaharsana Suta was not a devotee on the level of Haridas Thakura. In spite of his learning and exalted status, he had failed to perfectly realize his constitutional position as a tiny part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.  Rather he imagined himself to be the greatest sadhu. He dared to sit on the vyasasana–even in the presence of many learned devotees who hailed from dynasties of pure and exalted brahmins or brahma-rishis.  Moreover, when everyone else stood up and offered obeisance to welcome Lord Balarama, Romaharsana Suta remained seated. Srila Prabhupada mentions that he should have followed the example of all the other learned sages present by standing to receive Lord Balarama.

[Note: Srila Prabhupada’s “Nectar of Devotion” states that everyone should stand up to greet the Deities. No one should remain seated.]

Srila Prabhupada writes: “When Lord Balarama saw that Romahasana Suta did not understand the highest principle of religiousness in spite of having studied all the Vedas, He certainly could not support his position. Romaharsana had been given the chance to become a perfect brahmana, but because of his ill behavior in his relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his low birth was immediately remembered… “

Some beautiful words from Srila Prabhupada

Hare Krsna to all-pranams

All glories to Srila Prabhupada
What follows is some excerpts from a vyasa puja offering by A C  Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to his  Guru and Godbrothers many years  before he came to the western countries.

SSR  2                  Choosing a Spiritual  Master         He appears before us  to reveal the light of the Vedas and to bestow upon us the blessings of  full-fledged freedom, after which we should hanker at every step of our  life’s journey.
Gentlemen, our knowledge is so poor, our senses are so  imperfect, and our sources are so limited that it is not possible for  us to have even the slightest knowledge of the absolute region  without surrendering ourselves at the lotus feet of Sri Vyasadeva or his  bona fide representative. Every moment we are being deceived by  the knowledge of our direct perception. It is all the creation  or concoction of the mind, which is always deceiving, changing,  and flickering. We cannot know anything of the transcendental region  by our limited, perverted method of observation and experiment.  But all of us can lend our eager ears for the aural reception of  the transcendental sound transmitted from that region to this through  the unadulterated medium of Sri Gurudeva or Sri Vyasadeva.
…. All of us should hear him patiently. If we listen to the  transcendental sound without unnecessary opposition, he will surely have mercy  upon us. The Acarya’s Message is to take us back to our original home,  back to God.
Let me repeat, therefore, that we should hear him patiently, follow him in  the measure of our conviction, and bow down at his lotus feet for  releasing us from our present causeless unwillingness for serving the  Absolute and all souls.
Personally, I have no hope for any direct service for the  coming crores of births of the sojourn of my life, but I am confident  that some day or other I shall be delivered from this mire of delusion  in which I am at present so deeply sunk. Therefore let me with all  my earnestness pray at the lotus feet of my divine master to allow me  to suffer the lot for which I am destined due to my past misdoings, but to let me have this power of recollection: that I am nothing but  a tiny servant of the Almighty Absolute Godhead, realized through  the unflinching mercy of my divine master. Let me therefore bow down  at his lotus feet with all the humility at my command.

Parrot like realization-SP

Parrot like realization-SP

Hare Krsna to  all

Pranams

All glories to Srila  Prabhupada

Below we have a few different  lecture tidbits for you —

1. If we dont get the service of  Krsna, then repeated birth and death is our fate

2.for the kanistha is he says  Krsna is everywhere-he must have the practical realization

otherwise it is compared to  “parrot like” chanting and realization

3.the more one becomes expert in  Arcana (deity worhsip) the more he becomes spiritually advanced

4.the foolish person who makes up  his own path of bhakti is never successful

5.the greatest danger is when we  concoct or manufature our “own” process of worship of the Lord.

6.if one does not chant within  the acaryas methods of worship, this offense increases and gradually

it degrades into eventually we  will have no taste for devotional service.

7.if we say I dont need to wear  tilak/neck beads, etc, then we have not even begun on the spiritual  path.

8.a person who ignores the gurus orders never receives  the authority to chant Hare Krsna maha mantra

Hare Krsna

Damaghosa das

——————

761026SB.VRN — I have got already one body which is  klesada. Everyone has got

experience. No one is here who can say that “My body is  very nice.

There is no klesa. There is no pains and pleasure. I am  very perfect.”

That is not possible. As soon as you get a material body,  it must be

subjected to so many sufferings: adhyatmika, adhibautika,  adhidaivika.

Tribulations there must be. Material body means klesada.  Therefore the

Vedic civilization is to stop getting this material body.  That is

Vedic civilization. Not that  increase. That is explained in the

Bhagavad-gita. Two things are there. You must  accept, you must get the

service of Krsna. Otherwise you go on in this  way.

Mrtyu-samsara-vartamani. Asraddadhanan purusa  dharmasyasya parantapa

mam aprapya. If you don’t get Krsna, then there is no  other way. There

is no other alternative. The only alternative  is

mrtyu-samsara-vartmani. You get one body and again  you die, again get

another body. This will go on. Rsabhadeva, boys, said,  “This is not good.” Na sadhu manye yata atmano ‘yam asann api klesada asa  dehah.

So  this culture, this education, is practically nil. Especially  in

Kali-yuga, it is very regrettable. But the  informations are there, the

science is there. If one is intelligent, he can take  advantage of this

science, Krsna consciousness, and mold his life  accordingly so that he

can stop this process of accepting a body which is  klesada. Klesada.

That is the perfection of life. And that can be  simply done very

easily if you simply study Krsna, if you come in this  temple and see

Krsna. Very simple method. Mayy  asakta-manah partha yogam yunjan

mad-asrayah. These are not our manufacture; Krsna says.  You come here.

The temple is meant for this purpose: that you come, see  Krsna, and be

attached to Krsna. The more you become attached to Krsna,  that is

called bhakti-yoga.

Then what will be the benefit? Suppose I understand you  (Krsna) very

perfectly. Then what will be the result? The result  is,tyaktva deham punar janma

naiti mam eti … Simply. If you simply know Krsna, then  this business, repetition of

birth and death, will stop. It is so simple thing. So we  should take

advantage of it and utilize our human form of life  perfectly.

   Thank  you very much. (end)

Another good reason why we follow the bona fide Acaryas

**newrule

Hare Krsna to all

Pranams

All glories to Srila Prabhupada

What follows is two short paragraphs from a lecture given by

Srila Prabhupada wherein he clearly and concisely explains

every soul’s predicament in this material world. And how to

solve this problem. We are ETERNAL, but have forgotten this

fact and now take the TEMPORARY situation as the real one.

Forgetting our nature means forgetting Krsna. And we pay

the price for that forgetfulness– by birth after birth.

Hare Krsna

Damaghosa das

 750729SB.DAL                    Lectures

So this future, past, present, future, is being controlled by  the three modes of material nature. If we practice in this  life sattva-guna, then urdhvam gacchanti sattva-sthah: then we shall  be promoted to the higher planetary system. Madhye tisthanti rajasah.  If we cultivate rajo-guna… Rajo-guna means kama-lobha, kama,  simply desiring. This is called rajo-guna. “I want this, I want this, I  want this.” Because there is no satiation of want, therefore every man  or woman planning something, “How my sense gratification will be  fully satisfied.” This is rajo-guna, kama. Everyone is forgetting  his real business. His real business is he should know, one should  know, that “I am eternal. I have taken this temporary body and  subjected to the laws of nature, birth, death and old age. So my  real problem is how to become again eternal, not accepting any more birth,  death, old age. That is my real business.” But because I am  infected with the material modes of nature, we are making different plans.  Everyone is busy. Everyone is busy in different plans, forgetting his real  business. This is called maya. Maya means…, ma means not;  ya means this. Therefore maya means when you understand, “This is  not my business,” then you are out of maya. “This is not,”  ma-ya.

Two brothers and a sister take Vaisnava initiation from Srila Prabhupada

**newrule

Hare Krsna to all
Pranams
All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Today Sept 1st in Vancouver BC Canada, at the ashram of Navadvipa  das and his family, many
devotees attended the fire sacrifice and initiation ceremony of his  children Ram das, laxsman das and their sister Radrarani devi dasi. All were  given first initiation by his Grace Yasoda Nandan Prabhu, on behalf of Srila  Prabhupada. He is  from LA Calif.

It was a total success. Why? Because this family follows the rules and  regulations laid down by Srila
Prabhupada, namely 4 reg’s, chanting 16 rounds minimum daily and rising for  mongol arotk and the entire
morning program.  Therefore there is spiritual potency present. And  their devotional service does not end there. As many know, this family is  musically inclined, well trained, and have been asked to lead kirtan at many a  function.

They began holding home/ashram programs some 8 months ago and now people  are asking to be put on their temple list for Sunday feast donors at  $100 each. And what a feast it was!!
I was even told that one of the local “Iskcon leaders” came by , saw  a blank spot on that list and asked if he could also donate for one Sunday  !

So it is happening, here and all over the world for those who follow the  instructions of His Divine Grace
A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada had a dream once  and he told us that Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to him in this dream and said  He was withdrawing his mercy from the Gaudiya Matha and giving it to Iskcon.  That was when Srila Prabhupada was physically present. Things have now changed.  Now it can be truthfully said, that Mahaprabhu is withdrawing His mercy from  Iskcon (because they also do not follow the spiritual progam any longer) and He  Caitanya is now giving His mercy to devotees like this family and other like it  worldwide.
